Android cell phone for R5000.00

also the last removable battery phone I take it?
there's your problem, if you go dig up your S4, change batteries, and load android 10 for it (it does exists)

tell me you cant use your ancient phone in daily use.
I can't even if I wanted to because it got stolen

After that I had a Lenovo phone that also had a removeable battery. I've learned my lesson with phones with removeable batteries if your wife has the same phone. My wife would use her phone flat and wait for me to look away and then swap batteries. Drove me up the wall!

Any good roms for the Mi Max 2, that you know of?

take a look and see what works for you,
android 10 perhaps?

still have my s4 mini, even fixed it up personally when the screen cracked,
literally changed boards myself and put in a new battery.

working like a charm even today, but it isnt LTE (I9190), but running Android 10 like a champion.

colleague of mine with a s6 (g920F flat) gets to 50 % battery and switches off,
typical Samsung Rom with its "upgrade" algorithm.

I have the exact same phone (ex-GF phone), running android 10, and it will continue working until battery is at 1%.
just goes to show you how cr@p the original Rom was.

@beans100

Id go with something that isnt Beta personally, stick to stable channel and see how it goes.

To all the people recommending Hauwei, how do you handle the no google maps, gmail, google assistant and all the other gapps?

Got my wife the y7p, can give a little input:

google maps : Huawei's own map app Here WeGo works good
gmail : uses browser (works for her, don't think I would like that)
google assistant : don't think she needs this

She basically only use Whatsapp, Telegram and Facebook, all that was installed from their own app store. I installed Apptoide, to install Microsoft apps.
FNB app I installed on my phone, saved the apk and send it to her.
Couldn't transfer her notes to a huawei friendly notes app, so she had to start fresh with a new note app (evernote).

Only thing she misses is the Google Photos. So no auto backup of photos and no viewing of photo library on-the-go.

All and all, I won't go Huawei again and I won't recommend it. (it has a great camera, but that's all it has going for it now) Only bought it because it was cheapest I could find on the fly and she need a phone as her old Mi Max 1 was acting up and screen was heavily cracked.

Also, there was ways to install gservices, but those tricks doesn't work any more.

have the same as a company phone, lots of storage, but no Google services makes life dull,
FNB app didn't work at all even after transferring.

got my oneplus x right now, so will see how I get on with such an old phone.
rooted to android 10, option still open to return and buy something else.
