Hi guys,

Does anyone have an Android controlled Helicopter, like the iHelicopter or AR.Drone?

Is it worth it, in terms of being able to control it with your cellphone, or not really?

I'm thinking of getting one, but would like to hear your thoughts, or feedback from experience first. The Parrot AR.Drone costs R3K which is a bit steep if it's just another funky toy which will get left on the shelf after 2 or 3 flights

The flight time of them put me off.

All that hassle for 6-10 minutes of flight.... not worth it.

Really? So it's not like other RC heli's or planes which at least give you 15 or 30 minutes flight time?

To do that you need to use large batteries that bring their own weight as another problem. There is hacks where people can get up to 30 minutes on it but I dont know how true it is.

But yeah, lucky for me I had a friend that bought one, played with it a bit and decided to spend my money elsewhere as 1-2 hours of charge for a 10 min flight not my cup of tea.

These look so cool, wanted one the instant I saw it. Good to know about the battery life.

One of the IT managers at one of our clients said he has a proper one he got for his son (using a ipod touch to control it) and he got a cheap one down at some china mall for his Android at a fraction of the price. He said that the cheap Android toy flew circles around the more expensive apple setup. So maybe try China Mall or somewhere.

I see the online shop on that site sells it for double the price than what can be paid at Lightake.com $19.99 incl china mail :D, as soon as the R/$ drops abit more will order this for the nephew :)
