I have come to a dead end! Earlier today I thought it would be a good idea to install a custom rom on my samsung galaxy s, was working perfectly until I buggered something up

I was using clockworkmod recovery to install the custom rom from sd, first time around everything went smoothly without any problems, then I played around a little too much, then when I rebooted my phone it was hanging on the system start up, after the galaxy boot screen. Now I'm trying to reinstall the rom from sd but keep having constant hassles.

In the boot menu of clockworkmod recovery, I select "install zip from sd card" then I "choose zip from sd card" then browse to where the zip is located, on the root of my sd card (internal), I also put a rom (zip) on my external memory card, which I can see a folder called external_sd/. But when I select external_sd/ it brings me back to the root of my internal sd card. Anyway I put a rom on both my internal and external sd cards just in case I had any trouble installing from one or the other.

Ok, I select the rom .zip on the root of my internal sd to install, then I select install, and I get the following: E: Cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0) (Device or resource busy) E: Cant mount SDCARD

This is what I have also tried - Reboot back into clockworkmod recovery, then select :apply sdcard:update.zip, then yes install, then it looks like it brings me to another version of clockworkmod recovery (text is now another colour but same options) then I repeat the process of choosing the option of installing from sd card and selecting the .zip rom. (it also brings me back to the root of the internal sd when selecting to browse the external sd) anyway I select the .zip to install. Everything looks like it is running smoothly and installing until I get this error: E:Failure at line 12: copy_dir PACKAGE:system SYSTEM: Installation aborted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

What "playing around" did you do to bugger it all up? Have you tried doing a Factory Reset and clearing the cache on the device yet? You can do both from CWM. Try doing that first and then flashing the ROM again... Not sure if it will work though, it sounds like you corrupted the file system somehow. Did you try and apply different lag fixes?

You should download Odin and flash another firmware through that. Odin uses download mode for you to get new firmware on your phone. Just read up a bit about it and you should be OK.

I think what buggered it up was when I restored my previous backup from titanium backup and restored all my previous settings with all my programs... I don't think I was supposed to reinstall all my previous system settings... It got stuck on the system boot, so that is when I formatted and attempted to reinstall Darky's v9.1 Extreme Edition rom and kept having all these issues. Well I have given odin a try and think my phone is officially bricked, when running it for the first time, something failed and now my phone shows a little picture of a phone with a exclamation mark between a computer, as if there is no connection. Oh well I guess I have to bite the bullet and pop into vodacom.

Thanks for the suggestions and info anyway!

I had a similar on my Wildfire. Problem was that Ext partition was first and FAT second. YMMV but reformatting and repartitioning SD fixed it for me. Obviously, backed everything up first.

I cannot get into the CWM recovery mode anymore. I select the update.zip option which would take me to the CWM recovery but now all it does is restart the phone back into the original recovery mode. Any suggestions? I am trying to download Darky's V9.2 Ressurrection package but having an awful amount of trouble doing so. Is there some way I can put that update.zip (CWM) on the internal SD card again whilst it won't boot properly?
