Hi Everyone.

A friend of mine has an S9 with a dead screen. The phone switches on (it rings when you phone it), but the screen stays back.

What software can I use to get the photos etc. off of the phone. I found a few options online, but I dont know which one will actually get the job done.

Phone is not rooted.

EDIT: data is not on the SD card

Im thinking of getting an OTG cable that has an HDMI port on it. Im hoping that I can plug the cable into the TV and then use my mouse to copy the files to an SD card.

Thoughts?

You can reload the OS with ODIN. It will keep your data on the phone(Only use the AP file). Download the firmware from either samfirmware.com\sammobile.com or updato.com.

there is a tool called scrcpy - lets you control your phone from your PC. Essentially mirrors your screen to your PC, and you use your mouse and keyboard to navigate.

If you can get that going you can then control an app like Samsung smart switch to transfer files to the new phone. Or back up stuff from the phone to Google drive etc or copy to SD Card

Hope this helps you

Plug the phone into any pc with USB cable and access the data?

Ill look into this, thanks. Does it require any apps to be installed on the phone?

EDIT: :Looks like I need USB debug to be enabled. I found some references that mentions that you can use ABD to backup your phone even if USB debug is not enabled, might need some drives though.

I tried that, but the phone has a prompt that ask whether the phone should be used in USB mode or charge mode, only after choosing USB mode does the phone show up on the PC.

Can you find somebody with another S9, then you can try and simulate the gestures an clicks from looking at a working S9 (hope that makes sense)

Interesting problem, let us know if you find a solution
