You can hide the gallery, but it depends on your launcher.
Another option is to place a .nomedia file into the specific folder/s that you want hidden, they will not be displayed in the gallery. This is unreliable though, you might need to clear your gallery cache and app data to get it working.
Third option, this app. I think the best one, gives you both password protection and hidden files.
