Android KitKat restrictions

I don't have these problems. Root and Xposed FTW!

Having said that, the moment I inserted my SD in the S5, it prompted to create the necessary folders on external SD card.

It's easier to whine and blame Google than it is to blame lazy developers. Which is ironic, because lazy developers and Google's "lazy restrictions" are supposedly the reasons as to why Android apps will never have the same sort of quality as iOS apps.

Either way, Android can never win.

You caught me off guard ... I am currently using the N5 again.

But ... digging into the abyss of my memory, I might not have used a Xposed module.

Okay ... got it ... In the TWRP app, under settings - the last option is KK SDcard fix. It takes you to an app in the Play Store. That is what I used.

I will edit my post

How does this it work? If I extract files from archives are other apps allowed to edit and save them back in the same location? No?

There should be a "My Documents" style folder with full read/write permissions for that user. A Shared location for other users of that device. Other locations should be locked to the application or system applications. It should not be in the cloud.

I tried, but I could not make out exactly what you are on about.

Drunk at Friday lunch?

I frequently store important files in a password protected rar archive. I extract them, edit and then put back into the archive. If my phone gets mislaid the data won't get compromised. I am still on 4.2 and want to know if I upgrade to 4.4 what are the pitfalls? Can I still extract a file and let another application open, edit and save that file. Because I am told applications cannot write into the data folders of other applications anymore.

Which follows point B - is there be a folder where all applications can access and write over data?

Crystal now.

I don't know. I root all my devices, so if rooted, the answer is yes it is possible. If unrooted, someone with an unrooted phone would have to answer you
