Hi Guys,
My client is looking for 3 * Android media players for there tvs in there home. They need the device to do the following.

Movies
Series
Tv channels(bbc and alot of others) and i believe you can get channels from different countries with a vpn.

They want to cancel there dstv so they need an app that can play tv channels as well.

What is the best device to go for.

Budget is around R1500 per device

The best devices to go for are:

Telkom Lit box
Mi box s
Ematic

However, it's not so much the devices that dictate what you can watch but, the apps installed on the device..

Telkom Lit box is Very good, I also have the Apple Tv4k Roku Ultra, and the Amazon fire tv 4k Telkom Lit is Good, Get one if you can.

I have googled and can't find any shop selling the lit boxes? Even went onto telkom website?

Well HD Cabling have the MeCool KM9 Pro for less than your per-device budget so there's that (not affiliated with them, have bought only once from them so far), and I (or, to be honest, several others here) could source the Xiaomi Mi Box S for a little less than that too (seems there's that caveat to bear in mind though); and the devil IS in the details, so watch out for being caught there.

Move to US if you want 4k, please...:)

Huh? What has the US got to do with 4K?

My LG TV streams Netflix in 4K and HDR perfectly fine. My MiBox S doesn't support Netflix in 4K.

Just warning those who might expect 4K from Netflix on the device. It's a decent device for the price otherwise.

Kind of moot as there are no devices that stream 4k for less than R1.5 but yeah mibox has lost its lustre. It still doesn't have a damn ethernet port and only boasts one USB input. Criminal in this day.

Best out there is the Ematic which ticks most boxes.

+1 Its all about the apps supported and exactly WHAT steaming services they're subscribed to
This, note that if you want channels from Australia, Canada, some UK and Australia the the droids don’t have the apps but Apple TV has everything.

ignore the free channels and movie box type apps they are all kak

I have an mi box and I am disappointed.
It cant even play a movie of 4gb size on flash drive without buffering.
Dont buy the mi box, forget 4k it cant even play HD or 4gb blueray rips without buffering

I am now in the market for a new android player.

I have the same issue.

The MiBox S does not support hardware decoding of 10 bit H264 which most Blu-Ray and HD rips are - causing severe stuttering.

You'll have to convert the content to 8 bit H264 or H265 using applications like Handbrake if you want smooth playback.

It's really annoying. Time for a new Android media player.

There are some decent devices like the AM6 Plus or RockPi 4 that can decode 10-Bit H264 and also support auto frame-rate switching and HD audio passthrough. You also have gigabit ethernet and USB 3.0 ports to handle up to 500mbps bit-rate videos. with no stuttering. If you are serious about video playback you can also use CoreELEC/LibreELEC(a light-weight Linux Kodi Media OS) on these devices. The AM6 Plus also supports Dolby Vision playback.
