Android more popular than Apple in China

Google Inc’s Android mobile operating system (OS) was the top smartphone platform in China last year, growing its market share by about 35 percent in the world’s largest market for mobile phones...
 
The cementing of Android’s dominance in China came at the expense of Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia whose Symbian OS saw its market share more than halve to 18.7 percent last year.

Interesting, always thought the Chinese had a strong preference towards Apple products because of the brand-name.

Yes they are smart, but that is not the reason. Android devices in China are a fraction the cost of an IOS device.....and the vast majority of Chinese folk are not rich, so Android is more affordable for them.

Not at all, just highlighting the obvious why Android is out selling the rest. It is like cheap chinese cars outselling luxury german cars, poor people always drive hobo cars, no need to be bitter, but also not really comparing apples to apples by comparing hobo cars out selling luxury cars.

Same for tables / smart phones, hobo phones will always outsell the more expensive brands.
 
Android is so popular in China because of the lack of copyright restrictions you can sometimes not even tell them apart.

MIUI/aPad/ anyone?
 
Went to China last week, mostly saw samsung galaxy (s2 and nexus) with a few Iphones.
 
Tim Cook just spent a week in China, apparently to put a deal between Apple and China Mobile in place... China Mobile has a paltry 655 million subscribers.

The OS is free, but the hardware isn't.
Therefore, x dollars saved on a software license can be better spent on better hardware.
Or in this case, sell it with cheap hardware at a low price.

To classify the entire OS/platform as "for hobos" because some of the phones have a cheap build quality is inaccurate.

Pfff apple fanboi's will be apple fanboi's can't change it but to insult android users like that is just low dude..... I use blackberry with blackberry os7 and a moto defy with ICM android and its good phones. I don't go out a insult people like that. I kinda took offence to what you said.
