Does Android have something similar to iOS Newstand, where I can buy subs to magazines and they download to my tablet when ready?

I see Google Play Newstand - is that the same?
Seems it isn't even available in the country - and it's kinda of Flipboard cross?

Nothing else?

Looks like Zinio does indeed have an auto download feature.

I am also interested as to whether you can buy overseas magazines. My missus has given up on her paper based National Geographic (no more space) and was looking to buy the e-version, but they don't want to sell it to me because of location.

Most irritating, Zinio let me go through the whole process of ordering NG, including putting in credit card details and then told me there's an error processing the order. It also dumped me on Zinio UK without an option, and the ÂŁ price is quite a bit more than the $ one.

NG itself sends me off to the Play store which says I need Google News Stand, but that is not available in my location. I have News Stand and use it regularly to read news feeds :(

Some more info. You can find which magazines are available to us by using:
http://za.zinio.com
from a browser.

I can buy Playboy, but not National Geographic...

And these companies wonder why there is piracy ?

Why not just order it from NG themselves?

As I said, NG sends me off to Google News Stand, which doesn't want to sell any magazines to us, let alone NG. I will take it up with them sometime, especially considering that my missus has been a subscriber for almost 40 years...

I think that is 1 point to iOS :/

Exactly what I wanted
