i think RIM is going to slid rapidly into obscurity if they don't up their game, seriously don't understand their ploy, underpowered devices that are boring as a politician speech, with limited dev support for their overpriced apps. Having both BB and Android devices, i can clearly see why RIM is loosing market share.

Just like what Nokia did in the last few years, (except Symbian apps are mostly free) and they also have huge market share. I think the main reason why Blackberries are so popular in SA is because our stone-age minded networks don't have proper data plans, meaning if you want to keep your mail,RSS feeds synchronized, browse the net a bit, or listen to some shoutcast radio etc, you have to go with a Blackberry or pay through the ears.

LOL anybody noticed there is nothing at CES for WP7... oh wait I forgot nobody is allowed to come out with different specs for WP7 phones till old daddy Microsoft says so.

Yeah, Microsoft's decision to go with specific hardware specs for WP7 is gonna hurt them big time going into 2011.

They will seriously have to up their game if they are still trying to catch up with Android.

Yet in South Africa its growing, just because people want BBM

And it annoys the crap out of me! A lot of my friends think a BB is just the bomb & when I point out that it's a midrange phone at best, they all start throwing BIS and BBM at me.

Whatsapp works just aswell smart phone to smart phone ;)

i really think that RIMs marketing strategy is awesome though, in various malls in PE and CPT (i travel between the 2 cities) they set up this sizeable stall for the BB Torch, they let any passer by play with it and stuff, which i did, and i must say the phone isnt that impressive. yet it is considered one of the top BB phones by average consumers (just by general consensus amongst my friends i gathered)

If Apple or HTC/Samsung did the same for thier flagships, we could see a change but untill then i do not see BB dying in SA at least for the next 2years.

Okay guys, I own both a blackberry bold 9000 and a samsung galaxy S and I still think my bb is the best package (for me), even though the SGS is a far superior phone. You have to ask yourself, when and how often do you use these superior functions? Almost never, where BIS and to a lesser extend BBM you use almost everyday. I bought a sim card for my bold yesterday and I realized just how much I missed it. And no matter how handy swype etc is, you can beat typing on a keyboard. So as long as email is the primary means of communication by some people, blackberry will be popular. Maybe it is because I got a blackberry before an android phone, but you have to appreciate what blackberry offers, especially to the South African market.
