Hi everyone. I'm in the market for a new phone, and need some advice.

With all the devices on the market it's quite a daunting decision.

At present I am using a Note 4,and although it's served me relatively well is has also had its fair share of problems, basically out the box.

So I need some pointers. Looking for an android device, and I don't do contracts so I'm looking into buying a phone cash, in the vicinity of around R5k. Ya I know in today's market it may be tough to find anything decent at that price (or maybe I'm wrong... I dunno), but I just cannot come to fork out massive wads of cash for a phone again that basically gives you around 2 years of service. So, any pointers?

Has to be Xiaomi for me. You can get all of their good devices right up to the mix max that I have (if you want a phablet). Great phones. Great battery life. Great price. All round great :)

Go with Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 since you coming from a phablet and you want decent specs

Another vote for the Redmi Note 4, but you might miss the stylus if you used it on the Sammy

Thanks guys. I'm not too familiar with the Xiaomi brand, but from what I can gather the reviews are great and appears to be a lot of phone for the price. Really considering it, and will probably pull the trigger come the weekend, thanks.

Good call. Lots of good threads on here with Xiaomi tips and tricks as well. I don't think you'll miss the stylus... I never found a use for the one on the Samsung Note 3 or Note 4 I had.

I thought I'd report back should someone maybe stumble upon this thread in the future.

So, my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 was delivered today.

Coming from a Samsung Note 4 I've to be honest that I was a little sceptical about this device considering its price bracket, but, I've been proven wrong.

All and all this is a phone well worth looking into. For the price you really cannot go wrong, and the reviews online are all pretty much on par...i think this little guy is well worth every cent, and packs a load of bang for your buck, considering they are, well, very cheap, compared to what else is on the market.

I've read that the camera isn't too great and I have run some tests in my relatively poorly lit apartment, and, that might be my only gripe with it... The camera ain't nowhere near the quality of my Sammy but hey, for the price, everything else is pretty much on par with what my old flagship offered.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations.

Congrats! Many happy miles with the new toy. I own one too and they are fantastic bang for buck. The issue with the camera can largely be worked around with a different camera app as the default one is a bit dumb and lacks many features.

I'm also only updating the OS tomorrow, which I've read also has a positive impact on the camera. But, which camera app are you running?

Do you mind sharing where you bought it from?

I'm using OpenCamera presently. Seems very good and plenty of extra features
