Hi all

I’ve told my domestic not to do this but after clicking on every single ad she sees online her phone is now infected.

Random ads appears on the phone every 2 mins or so. I’ve gone through the apps and can’t see any unknown apps.

Anything else I can try? Obviously I can just wipe the phone but don’t want to lose the data.

Malwarebytes wanted payment details just to run a trial.

Gave it a quick google and found a Reddit thread where they suggested Unapp.

Installed that and sorted by descending install date. Uninstalled the last 5 apps installed and seems to be resolved.

What data will you be losing if you do a factory reset?

Surely you can upload anything of value to the cloud and then do a reset?

Yeah wtf is up with Malwarebytes. Also saw that some time ago. An increasing number of apps are becoming scammy like that.

I downloaded AVG first. Had to go through about 5 ads before I could run a scan to try and remove the ads on the phone. Ironic.

Don't download any more softwares, Try clearing Chrome's cache if it doesn't work then back up everything and clear Google Play Services in settings......if that also fails then just reset to factory. Clearing the browser cache has worked before when I also had to do it for my clicky neighbour

Backup whatsapp to Google drive and then you can restore it. Tiktok I have no clue about, but I always assumed it was cloud based, meaning you shouldn't lose anything. And your number is attached to the SIM (even eSim) - can't see a reason why a factory reset would lose that

Check what pages are allowed to do notifications in chrome\os browser, then remove them and extensions they are associated with. Then also go to apps, list with newest first and start to see who the culprit is.
