Good Day

The answer to this problem must be simple but i just cant see it. In the past, i used to sync all my contacts to an external server using my login, server, path and so on from a site called MobilEdit.

So when ever i changed phones, i used to enter my settings under settings, data transfer, sync(This is me using a Nokia as an example) and my entire phonebook used to download to my new phone.

This came in handy when i lost my phone and worked on samsungs, motorola and nokias. I now have a samsung galaxy Y running gingerbread and cant find this setting.

There must be a way to sync to an external server as I am afraid of losing all my numbers. Also i dont want to copy all to a sim card as thats tedious and syncing OTA cost like 2 cents in data. I tried Syncing with my Google ID but it doesnt seem to copy my phonebook

TL;DR: want to know how to backup phonebook on an external server on a samsung galaxy running gingerbread

Just backup your contacts to a vcf and move it to your PC with something like ES file explorer. Not OTA, but you have complete control.

If your Google Sync is active it will do this to Gmail automatically, in fact you can then even just edit your contacts in Gmail and the phone will be updated as you type, no need for extra software. If you still want external sources you can look at Lookout

The Google method allows you to sync back to other devices as well (Not only Android. On Blackberry for example you just install Google Sync

See: http://www.google.com/sync/index.html for other devices (Android its included)

exporting to a vcf is what i been doing but i was hoping for an easier way because nw i mus move file to a flash.

I used google sync but when i click on contacts in gmail, i dont see thhem there.

and lookout not compatable with device

Test this: Create a new contact, Make sure you set it as a google contact not a phone, SIM or exchange contact etc.

Sync with google and see if it shows up. I suspect your current contacts is set as phone contacts not google contacts.

@ park.... you are correct. its set to phone contact. is it possible to copy all existing contacts to google contacts?

Not sure, probably depends on your phone/OS version. I see on the GS3 you can press the options button (left bottom) and select merge with google. Another option might be to export to csv then import on gmail.

solution: Export to sd card. then import back and save to google. then sync.

Thanx every one
