Good Morning

I recently obtained an android cell phone( Galaxy Ace).
Connecting this phone to a wi-fi network has been a chore though. The phone connects to the network, but the internet connection drops after a couple of minutes. This might be that the wi-fi is dropping completely(atlhough the phone says it's still connected), but I am unsure.

The reason the title says "... or router" is that there is another android cell phone that struggles to connect to the network as well. (Exactly the same symptoms as stated above) and a friend has the same phone which doesn't drop from their network.

The router is a Mecer Wireless ADSL2+ router.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to fix the problem?
Help would be appreciated!

Firmware update?

I very much believe its the router as I have many Android devices connecting to both Linksys and ASUS routers without seeing the above mentioned problem.

The only time I have WIFI issues is when the phone "sleeps" and the comes out of hibernation, then for a couple of seconds it will not have WIFI connectivity, around 30-45 seconds. This is expected.

What I did to reduce that time to below 10 seconds was to "reserve" the IP's for the phones in the router setup. This safes a little bit of time on re-authenticating.

To test if it is the phone, set it to never hibernate (turn off the screen) and see what happens.

You can set the phone's wifi to never sleep in wifi settings. This is probably not the problem.

Try changing the channel the router is operating at. This is likely your issue if the time it takes to drop increases as you get closer to the router. But change it anyway. As far away from the default, so 2 or 10.

Use wpa2 if you aren't already.

I had a problem with the network mode, so i switched from mixed mode to g only. Guys on the hardware forum suggested this. This solved my issue.

Lastly, firmware as Elimentals suggested.

These are common problems, google around, there's good advice on the debugging steps to follow.

+1 have never seen this problem sounds like it may be the router.
Maybe test the phone on a friends wifi to see if it has the same issues

Mecer? The chances that your router is a hunk of junk and at fault are really really high.

Firmware update did the trick. Router still is a hunk of junk albeit in working condition.
Thanks for all the input!
