Android scare

Especially if you're getting your apps from dodgy sources.

Yup, I've never had a problem with Android. My 32GB MicroSD did somehow corrupt all its files once but I was taking it out and copying stuff through windows so I don't really know what happened, all it needed was a format.

Could this happen from not dismounting?

I have lost faith in all microSD as I saw many of them fail recently, on various devices. All from the same brand, a good name at that.

I have many friends with BB who complain about hardware problems eben on brand new phones. I did always like BB until then. I do not have sufficient experience to see the bigger picture here as I am talking about 10-20 phones, different models. It is not representative of millions of handsets out there.

5 years on a couple of 8 gig no-name MicroSD's that I bought in Malaysia, with no problem in sight.

But then again I still umount like its a religion before I remove the devices so it might be that

Interesting articles/reads in regard Android and security: Not going to post entire articles as its way to long and includes loads of pictures.

‘FakeInstaller’ Leads the Attack on Android Phones http://blogs.mcafee.com/mcafee-labs/fakeinstaller-leads-the-attack-on-android-phones

Bottom line: http://thenextweb.com/google/2012/1...amily-hides-in-fake-versions-of-popular-apps/

How to protect yourself

The good news here is that since this malware family is so prevalent, it’s rather easy to avoid it: just don’t download fake apps. Android lets you download and install apps from anywhere, but unless you know what you’re doing, you shouldn’t be installing anything and everything you can on your phone or tablet.

If you want to significantly reduce your chance of getting malware such as this one, only install apps from the official Google Play store. That being said, malware has snuck into the store before, so it can happen again.

As a result, the way to protect yourself is the same as on any other platform: don’t click on questionable links and don’t download random apps. Always check to see if what you’re getting is legitimate and you should be fine.

For me it has been a pure joy, and continues to be.

Agony would be someone who doesn't have much knowledge about custom ROMs & installing software from unknown sources, etc. , but still does it and then come crying on forums when weird things start to happen with the phone.

Same goes for any pc user who wonders over to warez web sites and expects to download cracks/keygens without malware/viruses accompanying the crack/keygen files.

Well said.
