Can Android phones sync with Apple Mac computers? I'm due for upgrade next week and thinking of getting Samsung S2. Using Mackbook Pro computer and would like a Sync function for calandar and phonebook. Current phone is iPhone 3GS.

Unfortunately that is where propriety bites you in the ass

As Apple refuse to share, you stuck with getting all things Apple ie: go get an iPhone.

What are you talking about? There are phone manufacturers who have made syncing apps for their platform. OsX is wide open for developers.

The reason why so many mac owners flocked to the iPhone was because Mac syncing was an afterthought for so many manufacturers.

SERIOUSLY NOW??? What an uninformed reply.

Its not up to Apple to make the software so that an Android phone can sync with it, its up to the phone manufacturer to develop the software!

Which they DON'T by the way.

I have an HTC Desire S (Android) and a MacBook Pro. The Android doesn't sync directly with the Mac, but this isn't an issue at all as they both sync perfectly with google. This removes the requirement to manually sync as they both (phone and Mac) sync through the cloud. I can add an appointment on my phone tonight and when I open my Mac at the office tomorrow I'll see the appointment there too.

Do you for one moment think Apple will allow another OEM use any way to sync Calander/Phone book data without seeing them in court 1st?

Come on what world you been living in, we have seen from past court cases where others tried to use iTunes just for music, never mind calendar or other data. Just accept the fact that Apple dont like competing and would do anything in their power to block it.

You can of course use Mac -> Online sync and then use Online -> Android but there is no way they would allow to go from Mac - Android.

I can almost bet there will be some patent or 6 on that.

Blackberry has been doing it for years now, from the look of it Nokia too, so I'm not sure what the source of your FUD is but if Android isn't offering osx syncing it's surely by their own choice.

@o/p - here's some syncing software that looks like it might fit the bill, from a company that's been doing this for years, Missing Sync. http://www.markspace.com/products/android/missing-sync-android.html

I've changed to Google contacts & calendar, just makes life very easy.

And if you loose/damage your phone, simply log in to your gmail account & everything is back on your new phone in no time.

Another question please: Will I be able to transfer the music in iTunes on the Macbook Pro to an Android phone? If so, how?

Music purchases from iTunes have no DRM but are in AAC format, so as long as your phone supports AAC you're good to go.

There a quite a few third party apps for this (eg http://download.cnet.com/iTuneMyWalkman/3000-18551_4-78746.html) or you can just pop the songs across onto the memory card. Obviously using an app helps with playlists and stuff.

DoubleTwist is pretty well rated as well: http://doubletwist.com/ See: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2359010,00.asp
Thank you Speedster. iPhone 4S stock in George is non-existant so I will have to switch to Android. Think of getting the SE Arc S.

I'm not familiar with the SE phones, but I am very happy with the Android OS. From what I hear the arc is a gorgeous device.
