Android Useful Apps

Great file manager, the features this thing has is 2nd to none, might just replace Root Explorer for me. Will see in a few real world usage situations if its gonna be my primary.

Thanks for the heads up

+1 thanks, this looks awesome

Solid Explorer Beta2 : Yes it still beta but man does it have features and then some. From SMB shares, to sftp/ftp but it has an added secret, ability to add Cloud storage, from Box.com to your Google Drive and Dropbox all under one app. Go check it out it truly is the best of the lot if you ask me.

Oh and just when you thought it can not get any better, try turning your phone for landscape dual pane view with drag and drop file manipulation :)
Looks good from the bits I've tried (once you figure out how the interface works!) SMB needs some work, unless I'm missing something, it's a pain having to re-enter the share details unless you let it remember the password.

The split panes is magic!

All I'm going to do is ask if you have tried it... because to be honest, it doesn't look all that great to me. No way to see how the app looks, etc.

Still, if Installous is for you...

Use it wuite often myself, perfectly safe. App screenshots do exist for developers that bothered uploading them but many of the apps are shall we say discounted. So developers do not bother uploading pics for market apps.

One example would be the Ster kenikor app that SK made exclusive to the Samsung store, I went and uploaded it to aptiod so that non-Samsung owners could get it too, and SK does not care cuz I posted a link to it on their FB page as well.

Cool. I'll keep an eye on it.

Just came across X-Ray for Android. Not sure if this was posted before.

It does the following:

  • Safely scan for vulnerabilities on your Android phone or tablet
  • Assess your mobile security risk
  • Keep your carrier honest

Since my recent purchase of a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, I have been looking for an app, that whilst free, it is able to do tons wrt helping me track my phone (should it get lost/stolen).

There are many, but the one I found that is very nice, is Android Lost.
There is a web portal that hold many functions, including remote audio recording, call logging, sms logging, photos etc.

I hope to never need to make use of it though!!

Seems cool and very easy setup. Thanks!

I have something similar but owing to part paranoi and part battery saving my gps is always off. Tgis makes such apps mostly useless, I however recently came accross a plugin for tasker called AutoRemote, that coupled with Settings Helper, the only known way to grant tasker aceess to the gps toggles, allows me to keep my battery saving and paranoia as they are and still ensure complete usefulness of such apps.

AutoRemote sets up a push connection for your device, its my understanding that push registration is sim independant, so using my own chosing trigger phrase I have a tasker profile that locks the phone, sets and enables a decive password, enables gps and fetches the gps location and then sends out an sms to my chosen number with the location and obviously current phone number.

will give your suggested app a try as I have found mobiucare to be a bit iffy for consitency and they very slow on updates. After the ICS upgrade mobiucare stopped working and it was 4 months before an update was released.

Found a cool exercise app, it's called HIIT interval timer.

Very cool, times your rep sessions and break sessions, rather than counting reps.

So at first you can do 15 second reps and 15 seconds break, and have 10 cycles.

You can of course set the timers for when you get better so 10 second breaks and 20 second workout.

Helped me a lot, when I wanted to do exercise I'd just do something till I'm tired and call it a day, now I think exercise is a lot more efficient.

It is very sensitive, if your door squeaks the phone whistles. I uninstalled it after a few days, it drove me mad.
Mine is actually working opposite, i have to whistle for at least 3 seconds for the phone to make a noise. Its quiet awesome.

I actually keep it off for most of the day - I work with some practical jokers that would love this. I'll see how it works out at home though. It certainly seems sensitive enough.

Re: Android useful app catalogue.

I came across a nice app that I think will save a lot of battery

https://play.google.com/store/apps/...gle&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=lux+free+dash

Works nicely with widget locker, so you can just drop it in your lock screen.

It's very nice for phones like the RAZR where even on the lowest display setting the screen can be to bright.

I was actually looking for an app that could give me a brightness slider in the notification area like MIUI but this one will have to do for now, very nice that you have the control to set the brightness as low as you want.

I take it you are using a stock ROM? RR has a setting built in to allow brightness to be set by sliding along the notification area. Not sure if this comes from CM or AOKP, but it works a treat.
That said, this app looks awesome. Will give it a try.
