Android Useful Apps

Nope gave it full access...

Got it working though. Downloaded the older version and signed in. That worked. Then went back into the new app and then it only worked for the accounts that had been signed in on the old app. No idea why tho, old app has been uninstalled and it's still seems fine on the new app, for now.

Anyone have any idea why I see some apps in dollars and others in pence? 99c apps should cost R11 but I see some are converted from pence. 79p is closer to R14.50 so why should I have to pay an additional R3.50?

It probably all depends on where the Developer is located, you'll pay in their currency.

MeteoEarth

By far the best looking weather app out there. It's not cheap - coming in at R50, but it's visually pleasing. It only gives you a 32hr graphical forecast of global precipitation, cloud cover, pressure, temperature on a Google Earth type 3D globe, unless you pay a further 3 month or 12 month subscription for a 4 day graphical forecast.

It's R50 well spent.

This may have been asked before, but searching from mobile is a mission, so hope you can forgive me...

I am looking for an easy, automatic photo backup solution, even if it auto compresses images (in fact, I prefer that) . Not a fan of the Google+ auto backup. But it must be private.

Can something like Imgur or Instagram do that? With Instagram I already have followers who will see any new photos uploaded, despite their being an option to set uploads as private. On Imgur and Instagram I don't see an option for auto upload.

Thanks for any solutions... :-)

Try Flickr or Dropbox. Personally I like Dropbox

Thanks :-) will try dropbox

It ticks a lot of boxes, and I probably should still try it.

I don't like that, if I want to individually add a photo that was not automatically added before, I have to share it with someone. What if I want to keep it private?

Perhaps I am missing something. Otherwise it would be closer to perfect.

It is also harder to manage albums from mobile device. ie if you want to select all photos in an album, there is no 'select-all' function.

On the web interface, when looking at your Auto Backup items, select want you want, and then select Copy. From there you can add it to an existing album or create a new one. Album will be private until you share it.

Have a look at this in conjunction with G+: Tool for Picasa, Google+ Photo It allows you to upload individual photos.

Thanks! Is this without the need to share it with someone, ie can be kept private?

Fair enough but they are selling that app in the US for 99c

Yes, but is it not then on Sle in US, and when you go, not being in US are paying the normal price. The prices listed in store are conversions based on your currency, when buying it goes back to the developers chosen currency so there will always be some discrepancy, also as you are buying with your card, it takes a few days to show up on your statement and the bank does the currency conversion once its cleared, so you could end up paying more or less once its actually been paid for.

I also used to use dropbox, but that too me was just a pain and slow. I then started using WiFi Sync, which syncs when I connect to my home WiFi to a folder on my desktop.
Alternatively, if your security paranoid like myself, tresorit is a great option, 4096b client-side encrypted, recent addition was photo sync.

Unless it actually needs to be on the internet, I would look into WiFi sync.
