Android Useful Apps

remember the purpose of android auto... it's basically to replace the in car entertainment head unit, so it basically uses your phone and apps and present a car friendly interface

I can do all I need on my car's console or steering wheel. Music is streamed via Bluetooth form PowerAmp.

But I get what you are saying. I don't know what else I was thinking it could do :o

Audio over Bluetooth is very average in quality. Android Auto with a cable is a big step up, especially if your phone is a recent flagship with a decent DAC.

If someone already has an in-car system with an excellent sat nav system, contact syncing, intuitive audio player etc. then there is minimal benefit to using Android Auto. The huge benefit of AA is that you can buy a double din colour screen aftermarket head unit for your car that doesn't have much in the way of features other than Android Auto, which aren't nearly as expensive as top end head units. Suddenly your car has killer sat nav, audio playback, dialling features, Google search etc.

Why pay R20k to spec satnav on a new car when you can use Google Maps, which also has the bonus of live traffic routing.

Allo 3.0 introduces chat themes, suggested stickers and emoji, and Fantastic Beasts stickers

First up are chat themes, which were hidden in the code for Allo 2.0 and could be activated with root access. Now they are official, with a large variety of included themes to choose from. You can also use the monochrome mode in Allo 2.0 to make reading messages a bit easier.

Next is 'Smart Smiley,' which is a new button next to the send button in chat. Tapping on it will reveal suggested emojis and stickers, based on the contents of your message. Google claims most users only send about 3% of all available emojis, which isn't surprising when Unicode has implemented over 1,000 emoji. The idea is neat in concept, but I'm not sure how often this will actually be used.

Finally, there are now stickers from the much-hyped "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" film. The stickers mostly feature characters from the film, and they look particularly well-done. Google has already added wizard fun to Search, Maps, and Daydream, so it's no surprise to see these stickers.
