That is very similar to Android Sync manager Just a ?better? UI polish. Only problem I have with them is that they use their own markets (Not that I would let an app access my Google account) in doing so they can be a prime location for malware.

Yes the UI is pretty good. And yea I don't plan on using their app market. Its very easy to use and will allow you to manage your contacts, text messages, apps, music, pictures and videos from your PC via usb or wifi.

Also allows you to copy files to and from your device via wifi or usb.

I use MyPhoneExplorer for that purpose - connect via USB, BT or WiFi. Bonus points for allowing me to type using my PC keyboard on the device when connected!

Some apps that I found useful recently:

APP Lock Protect selected applications using a password or pattern.

ExpenZa Expense Tracker picks up the SMS that your bank sends to you when you swipe your card. The following South African banks are accommodated: ABSA, Capitec Bank, Discovery Card, First National Bank (FNB), GoBanking, Investec Bank, Nedbank, RMB Private Bank, Standard Bank, GoBanking (NEW).

prevents? droidwall performs that function but requires root. using cm9 and it has that functionality built in.

Onavo does work, however with certain apps it can lead to increased battery drain. As it does not require root to function it simply kills the apps that you block, many background apps like whatsapp and facebook for example will simply restart within a few seconds, each kill and each restart generates a partial wake lock (pulls it out of idle), now with persistent background apps this can happen a number of times per minutes and can ultimately have a very negative impact on your battery life.

Ultimately its better to have root for something like this, or simply remove the data hog apps. If you have ICS or JB then simply use the built in data app as it will have the required privileges to block them effectively with little to no side effects.

You can always go for the more long term solution and setup the apps properly, most that use background data do not really need it and provide the options in their own settings to disable it, takes a smidge more work but does not require an additional applications or root.
 
Thanks I got the GS3 because I know with my old phone ( Motorola Defy ) ( Froyo ) there was an option to disable background data completely

this is pretty cool
I saved the ussd code as contact and added it as direct dial shortcut on my homescreen
but this is much more convenient

I created an app to do something like that, one touch to get all balances from ussd codes and store them, display it on a graph, also had a widget which could retrieve and display the latest data. You could store your pin as well, to get more detailed info like unbilled balance and airtime.
Started a new job and I just never got around to finishing it :/
