You still need to be online to search for an address, and also reconnect if you lost satelite connection while en-route, and using the offline maps.

Online maps are there for a reason:
Traffic reports, always up to date maps for free to name but 2.

If you want offline maps go get a Garman/tomtom device or buy their mapping apps for your phone.

That fine, but doesn't work that well in a country where 3G is prohibitively expensive for this kind of usage, and not always available everywhere.

I have a Tom Tom and pay an additional renewal fee every year to "enjoy traffic reports", which one doesn't always need just to navigate to a foreign address while on a long distance trip.

Nokia's maps were free as well and I could update the maps for free, whenever I had internet on my PC / laptop.

The point I'm making is that google maps's offline version could be much better, and should allow one to search an address, and calculate the route while being offline as well. Currently it doesn't do that so it's not completely offline. Cached maps don't work at all if you loose 3G or satellite signal. i.e. it doesn't work when you're in Namibia or Botswana, or even the Transkei without 3G signal for a few days.

I'd prefer to be able to DL the .apk and then copy if over to the phone.
Knowledge? From trusted sites please.

Nokia Maps gives you free map updates (which can be searched using both old and new street names) plus live traffic reports. And it was offline. Sounds like a clear winner in my opinion.

There are some paid apps on Android that do similar but free will always win this fight.

Haven't tried it personally but can you not use Bluestacs and copy the install to your Phone?

The actual apk of those games are small, once you run the app it downloads all the game files to your phone.

Thats why i dont play any gameloft games, its like 500mb to a gig download everytime theres an update. And i cant find anywhere else to download the game files from.

USSD Checker
been using this for quite some time, it shows my free minutes, smses and data on one of my screens....

Can't get this working. When I run checked it tells me the USSD Checker Resources (which I also installed) is old and out of date. Have uninstalled and reinstalled both but it keeps telling me it's old, when it's clearly not...

Vodacom. This isn't even trying anything. I get the message upon opening the app. Haven't been able to get as far as to entering details.

Ya does that sometimes, normally only affects me after a titanium restore. I normally just wipe data, remove both and start again and it works.

I use this in Firefox on Android and it works brilliantly now they have released a version for Android itself. It only works on Wifi for now but I am sure they are working on it. Best is that you do not need to be rooted fir it to work.

Correction, it only works on wifi IF you are NOT rooted. If you are rooted then it works for wifi, 3g/4g, etc.

I have removed this from my Tab, I got a reboot or two and it made tendering flak with the laptop connected to it have trouble loading pages and connecting to gmail. Uninstall and all is as it was.
