So for the past month or so both my wife and I have been receiving these super-annoying pop-ups on our Samsung S6s:

That's just an example of one that popped up now on my homescreen, it's a screen overlay that gets triggered automatically (in this case I think whenever the battery hits 25% full).

There are others too: one warns you whenever your phone is on silent that "You might be missing calls.". There's another one that doesn't even have a dismiss option (I have to reboot the phone to get rid of it).

Any idea what this is and how to delete it? It feels like a half-baked piece of software my wife and I might have automatically received from Samsung, because surely Google wouldn't do this (and we're still on Android 6.1).

Try and disable Peel remote and see if it happens again.

Ok, turned off Peel Remote (which was hidden in tools and I have never used). So have you experienced this yourself? WTH is Peel Remote and why does it care about my phone settings???

Peel remote app upsets users with a ton of ads and lock screen overlays

I had the silent mode thing on my S6 which went away after I removed Peel remote. It comes preinstalled with the phone for use with the IR blaster.

Yes, that's it!!!! Oh my word, I'd never have guessed in a million years. I see that story is from March 2017 so it must have been some update they pushed out. It never did that before and I've had the phone for two years, but all of a sudden every day it's in my face about something.

Bunch of scumbags right?

There's a $0.99 monthly subscription that disables the ads. That's some extortion tactics right there.

I don't understand the logic at all. It is an IR blaster app that's now trying to push out helpful unbranded tips related to the phone, complete with an unbranded second lockscreen that nobody asks for? Until now I didn't even know they wanted to sell me something, just because I've never seen a prompt for that.
