Just got an adroid device today, xperia x10 mini.

Its awesum having an app market, so much options! But without some kind of proper data plan (like unlimited in the US), you have to find wifi for an android experience as its meant to be.

What are the best data plans out there for smartphones? I wouldnt mind going R150 pm for an untethered option

..... I wouldnt mind going R150 pm for an untethered option.........

There are no distinctions between tethered versus untethered in data bundle prices.

Your needs are dependent on your Location, whether you want a bolt-on data plan onto an existing voice sim, or a standalone data sim, whether you want post-paid or pre-paid....etc

x10 mini is a cool little phone, good purchase :)

i try to use data only for essentials when i am not on wifi or on the road, for app downloads, updates etc i stick to wifi, data is too much of a ripoff with our networks.

android is the best os but no data plan supports it. it can be a bit of a data hog

No data plan supports it? What the hell is that supposed to mean? Any data bundle (plan) supports it just like it would on every other phone except blackberry with BIS, where you can still actually load a bundle.

data plans dont come bolted on. only redbull has decent data plans. other providers you have to add it as an extra.

first things first make sure you control the data, all the apps running in the background can chow over 50mb a day

Smartphones need data, our networks suck ass. Everyone knows this. Nothing to do with android really...

No multiqoute in default browser so here goes

@fader: got it only for R1000! Was supposed to be a 'meantime' phone, but it looks like it has legs to carry it further:-)

@everyone else: thats just the thing, blackberry will dominate our market for years to come if there isn't going to be a worthwhile data plan (bundle) for non-BB smartphones. Here's looking to cell c (or if im permitted to blaspheme, Heita!) hoping that they open up the market to androids/Apple/wm7 phones. They can really make a killing if their networks can take the strain.
