The bail hearing of one of the men accused of Anene Booysen's rape and murder resumed on Wednesday morning.

Jonathan Davids' bail application started on Tuesday while his co accused, Johannes Kana, is not applying for bail at this point.

The men were arrested shortly after the 17-year-old was raped, mutilated and left for dead on a construction site in the Western Cape town earlier in February.

The state has called its first witness to the stand.

It is a police officer who was in contact with Booysen shortly after she was found at a construction site.

She had been mutilated and sexually assaulted.

The court had how blood could be seen around her ears.

Her head had been covered in sand and her intestines were visible.

The witness also testified that when he asked Booysen if she could hear, she replied she was in pain.

Booysen also informed paramedics that the man responsible was Zwai and his friends.

When she was asked Zwai's race, she said it was a coloured man.

Scratch marks were found on Davids' body after his arrest.

However, Davids maintains he is innocent.

Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said it has evidence linking Davids to the crime.

The NPA's Eric Ntabazalila said, "We have witnesses who say they saw him at the club with the victim. We also have material which has been sent for testing and it's not only blood there's semen as well."

The NPA is expected to oppose bail.

are you kidding me. the one wanting bail? if they let him out on bail he won't be alive to stand trial the community will lynch him for sure.
