Johannesburg - Furious passengers forced a bus driver to turn around barely 2km after leaving for Durban after it became clear the vehicle was unsafe.

Passengers told The Star that they were already seething after being made to wait three hours for the bus to arrive in Johannesburg.

Passenger Mduduzi Makhathini said when the bus eventually started driving, it switched off twice and “did not drive well”.

“Passengers were angry and they told the driver to return. He did not object because it was him against many angry people. He stopped at the garage, and that was when we noticed that it had a flat tyre, and when we returned to Park station, the bus was tilted to one side as it drove,” said Makhathini.

Another passenger said she was disappointed in Roadlink for allowing a bus to drive in that condition.

Officials from the bus company had to placate the angry customers, who were eventually put on a replacement bus.

A Roadlink spokesperson was not available to comment on the allegedly unroadworthy bus.

The previous evening, Scania SA allegedly impounded two buses at the same Park station over non-payment.

Mandatory comment: Well done! Now to get the taxi passengers to do the same thing.

I think its pretty scary the amount of spokes persons that are hiding from the media these days. 0 Accountability.
