Hi guys,

I am a seasoned "backend" developer who primarily have been working with server side technologies, however the world is moving towards a full stack developer sphere and I want to move in that direction too. I have over 15 years experience with programming and consider myself very senior, however i struggle with all the new client side technologies. Gone are days with a bit of copy/paste of js/cs files and some simple html and then some awesome backend code.

I started watching / following pluralsights videos and worked through a few tutorials online.

How do you guys get skilled up on these technologies ?

I just jump in and try to understand what I'm looking at and once I do, I fiddle around then start reading up on the various things that I see.

I read books, one good site for them is: Manning and another is Sitepoint, or just check the repos and things for learning materials.

I also have a few subscriptions to places that host learning material for various technologies, be it written or video or otherwise.

Currently digging into Egghead at the moment.

I've taken a liking to Vuejs recently and you should check it out.

A weird thing that I noticed is that there is a bunch of repositories popping up with awesome __subject__ as the name and they give a wealth of information about the technology, here is awesome-vue.

I build random rubbish while learning stuff... Currently working on a chat app... This helps to solidify the information that comes from reading and watching and learning about the technology.

If you'd ever like to build some random rubbish just for fun with a collaborator, let me know as it would be fun and could learn some :)

Good luck with your journey!

If you're interested in something like angular then google around for "angular boilerplate".
This should give you a couple well laid out Angular projects that can be used as a starting place for doing your own thing.
You should have a couple of options, some may support SASS, some may support LESS, some gulp, others grunt.
Find something with the majority of libraries/tools that you are interested in and play around with it, see how it's structured and put together.
