Ok im looking for a media center that will play a crapload of offline content in various formats from an external drive or stream from the network but has the ability to stream online stuff. I still have 1mb uncapped so streaming not such a great idea atm.

AFAIK the Roku boxes only stream and cant do offline content am i right?

WD TV Live can do all the things you are looking for.
Regarding the Android media players, dont you have to download a "player" to play all your items, I find that on my previous Android tablet I needed 5 plus players as some didnt play this file and some didnt play this audio.
It was a pain!

WD TV Live i have never looked back.

Bought the Mede8er 600X3D. I stream all my media from a NAS and work perfectly/. Awesome little device. Can also do 3D.

Did you see the R499 ex vat part at the bottom of his post? :p

Yip. Hence my "But they're rather pricey >R2k iirc..."
The OP mentioned he wanted an Anndroid :erm: Media center and that shiny Ac Ryan device came to mind :)

This looks pretty decent too and runs some sort of Android setup. But they're rather pricey >R2k iirc...

The AC Ryan Veolo Smart Android Hub has some really bad reviews last time i checked.

Wouldn't be surprised. I have the AC Ryan mini playon (?) and it's a rather poor device but it does what it was made to fairly well. As samr1wp pointed out there are quite a few Android media player devices around but I haven't used one or seen many that are easily available in SA.

If I was the OP I'd just invest in an HP Microserver with a suitable graphics card and then use Plex or XBMC. It will do everything he requires and more imo.

EDIT: Oh and again, I only mentioned that AC Ryan smart hub thing because it has Android and can play offline stuff which is what I gathered the OP was specifically asking for. I in no way endorse AC Ryan products :p
