I've been at the company for 3.5 years and go into my annual reivew expecting a small - but inflation equalling - yearly increase. I normally go with low as not be disappointed and it's worked ... until now.

We start with a chat of where I'd like to go, my career path and various off the record chats. I'm then told I'm too expensive for my role which is junior and as we're a small company, there's no where else to go. I've hit my glass ceiling.

Due to this, I hardly get an increase this year- and am told that this will be how things will work in future.

Time to jump ship?

I'm aware it's an easy choice, but actually just wanted to get it out of system

Look for another job and stick it to them...
When they come with that glass ceiling kark, then it means you've outlived your usefulness to them.

Secure a position in another company then leave, no use staying with them if they tell you you're not going any further.

Look for another job.
Thats a terrible reason for them do give to you to justify the low increase in your salary.

Good luck.

They haven't exactly left you with much choice have they?

I take it it's their way of saying 'Thanks.. but cheers'.

Been there got the t-shirt.

I'm pretty much internal sales at an IT distrubtion - so dealing with channel/resellers

Th ecompany does corporate IT solutions ... Riverbed, Fortinet, Aruba wireless, IronPort, hardware/software encryption etc

Mmmmm I have a pretty good idea which company this is!

My situation: was told the same.. then also told in an arrogant way that if I wanted more money (after I discussed a raise) I must go and look outside for a company willing to pay more. I didn't even make an effort to look for another job when the competition approached me and offered me double. Of course the sore losers they are, then tried to sue me later for all kinds of crap, I still don't regret leaving there! Things happen for a reason!

Oh I have no issue with the company or the people - I've been here almost 4 years and quite content!

The issue is no growth potential. Do I really want to wake up in 5 years doing the same junior position I'm doing now? Maybe it's a push I need to get out of my comfort bubble
