Anonymous hacks US govt. website

Hacker group Anonymous said it disabled the US Sentencing Commission’s website Saturday in revenge for the death of Internet freedom advocate Aaron Swartz

The Sentencing Commisssion's treatment of Aaron Swartz was a flagrant abuse of power. There was absolutely no need for them to have persecuted him vindictively.

Well I don't agree with Anonymous here. They are blaming the system for the fact that this guy felt so guilty that he committed suicide (which is just one likely interpretation of his motives for killing himself). I admit I do not know the extent to which he was persecuted, but...

The fact remains that the research he wanted to distrubute freely to the world was worth millions if not billions of dollars. Furthermore the research was by and large born from US investment in high-tech research. MIT is not a charity. It's a serious investment of talent, time and yes money.

It was a most heinous crime. The guy was a criminal of note. Maybe foolish and naive, but if you are foolish and naive enough to think you can just grab the Mona Lisa and make a run for it then well... Darwin wins in the end.

For all that liberty is a great thing there is such a thing as TOO LIBERAL. Taken to its extreme it is just plain anarchy.

@Nookie: Exactly what do you expect them to do? A 'hacktivism' group can only hack/deface/disrupt sites etc.., then release sensitive information to piss off their targets, which they have done plenty of :/

You admit that you know nothing about the preceding events, yet proceed to post an opinion, why? Sure, I don't expect anyone to agree or disagree, but for humanitys sake, at least post an educated opinion instead of posting for the sake of posting...

Anonymous? All talk and no real power.

Citizen you judge harshly and without adequate information.

Tunisia, where post the fall of the Tunisian regime the demonstrators held their vendetta masks and thanked Anonymous for making the communication possible.
Egypt, where the communications that facilitated the Arab spring after the shut down of the Internet systems was facilitated by Anonymous
This seen last night in Egypt in Tahrir square: https://twitter.com/57UN/status/295835546561945601/photo/1

Do not doubt the will and resolve.

We are Anonymous
We are Legion
We do not forget
We do not forgive
Expect us

- Operation South Africa coming shortly

Many of these are on our list.

Let us however begin, before we officially launch operation South Africa, by stating the following, as communicated to the media already:

We the legion do not seek war with the South African government
We the legion do not seek the downfall of the South African government
We the legion do not seek the resignations or downfall of any innocent individuals

We the legion do however seek to expose the corruption
We the legion do however seek to show the world that without change, the blood spilt in the cause of freedom will have fallen in the desert, where it is absorbed with no gain
We the legion do however seek to show the world that the liberators have become the oppressors

We the legion ask, nay, demand, that a culture of accountability and adherence to our constitution is reintroduced.
We the legion demand an end to censorship by the state
We the legion demand an end to the culture of corruption within our police force
We the legion demand our children be granted the education guaranteed by the constitution
We the legion demand an end to the theft of tax payers money by corrupt officials
We the legion demand that the voices of the people be heard.

We are without race, without tribal affiliation, without association with any South African political party.

Further to this... as proof of our preparation over the previous months, we give you this already published work.

With so much information out there regarding this case, you opt to do a Hollywood script on it?

Please don't go after Julius Malema. He will take down the internet (permanently, not temporary like Anonymous) and then we're stuck with slow mail.

Thank you.
