A few years ago, we had insurance cover on our home loan with ABSA Life. We realised that it was very expensive cover and cancelled it.

THIS WEEK I get an SMS from them saying they will be deducting our insurance premium on 1 Jan 2013. I called them, only to be told it was an error and no premium will be deducted.

How does their system "leave us alone" for 2/3 years and then commit an error like that ? Does anyone have insight into how their IT systems work?

bwahaha, Blu... I think that the answer to that question is the same as the answer to the question of: has anybody managed to reconcile the differences between general relativity and quantum mechanics... Nobody knows how/why these systems are functioning...

I'm also fighting with them... once again.

I noticed my interest rate is not inline with the signed and agreed quote - and I asked them to change it to what was agreed (in writing)... they refuse. Their excuse is that their is a delay in their internal systems, so the quote was printed before they adjusted the interest rate.

I've now lodged a dispute with them, and thereafter I'll take it up with the banking ombudsman - but they haven't even acknowledged my email to them re: dispute - fortunately I have the autoresponse reference nr.

I really wish I could get my home loan interest rate matched elsewhere.

Less than one month. Less than one month and I close my absa accounts.

Happened to a guy I know. His rate was supposed to be (say) 9.1%. On the signed paperwork, it was 1.9% The bank had to honour it, they asked him nicely if he'd like to 'renegotiate' and when pressed, they agreed he did not have to. So, he left it at that- score.

Don't admit any fault or agree to anything. Of course, follow through with the complaint. Claim interest etc back from them for the inconvenience. Good luck...

There is no fault on my side - its there in black and white - initially I asked that they just adjust it to the agreed rate, they're "only" out by 0.5% - but since they're refusing - I am now requesting that they refund all interest incorrectly charged since 2008, and adjust to the correct rate.

According to the ombudsman they have 20 days to resolve this, thereafter I can lodge a dispute with them.

Yea.. they let go of all crapload of their IT personal. Scrapped a crapload of projects..and if I remember correctly, the remaining maintenance employees were outsourced to another Indian company that will maintain their systems. (So nice way of saying to local people thanks and fck off...). So yea expect a crapload of problems in the future...

They need to outsource the entire company - never met such useless people in my life.

MTN was always at the top of my list, but ABSA has taken the crown.

I hear they are advertising their "ABSA Rewards" on radio. "Click on Rewards to claim your cash" or something like that. What they fail to mention is that its R21pm to get Absa rewards...

/the really sad part here is that I am still with them as well

This is what happens when a woman is put in charge of running such a big company.
