Another Cape Town Policeman killed

An off-duty policeman was shot dead in Mitchells Plain, Western Cape police said on Monday.

Lt-Col Andre Traut said the 29-year-old constable was shot at a home in Dassenberg Street, Tafelsig, around 1.45am on Sunday.

"We have reason to believe that the incident was preceded by an argument between the victim and the suspect, who fled the scene, and who is yet to be arrested," he said.

"It is also suspected that the victim and the suspect were acquainted with each other."

The constable, whose name has not been released, was stationed at the Cape Town central police station.

Last week, 30-year-old Constable Thabo Mdzwana was shot dead in Lwandle, Strand, Cape Town.

Two men were arrested for the murder.

Two people have been arrested for killing an off-duty policeman in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town, police said on Tuesday.

Lt-Col Andre Traut said a 21-year-old man was arrested in Delft on Monday.

A 23-year-old woman was arrested shortly afterwards.

He said they would be charged in connection with the death of 29-year-old Constable Brandon Mapoe.

Mapoe was shot dead at a home in Dassenberg Street, Tafelsig, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

"We have reason to believe that the incident was preceded by an argument between the victim and the suspect, who fled the scene, and who is yet to be arrested," Traut said at the time.

"It is also suspected that the victim and the suspect were acquainted with each other."

Mapoe had been stationed at the Cape Town central police station.
