Hi Gents

Our new place have finally been registered onto our name at the Deeds office and we looking at taking comprehensive insurance for 2 cars and household contents. The structural insurance and death assurance has already been added onto our bond with Standard Bank.

Should or can i put the 2 cars and house contents with the other 3 that i have mentioned?

Standard Bank borkers did some sums for me and the best 2 that came out was Auto and General that quoted me R1150 and Santam with R1250 which is for 2 cars and house contents. With Santam if we include 2 cellphones plus laptop it just about a 100 more. The excess for A & G is R3500 and with Santam its R2500.

The lady explained that Santam has more benefits then A & G, but i have not dealt with both companies at all. My vehicle is insured with Outsurance where i pay R413 per month.

So to put it in short
Who is the better of the 2 and why?
Is there any other insurance that offer better rates and offer better benefits?
Is those amounts suffice for insurance for 2 cars and house hold insurance.

Your assistance will be appreciated

Ta :D

Simple answer, take the structural (building) insurance away from your bank.. you will save probably R150pm month.

Get a proper broker who isn't affiliated to the bank to give you a decent quote that includes building insurance, and death assurance? cancel it.

So your first problem is that you are with OUTSURANCE. Terrible terrible company.

Santan is excellent. They have a very good name in the industry and they are competitively priced. If I were you, call Santam yourself for a quote and get in touch with Mutual and Federal, Zurich and Momentum. Get your own quotes, do not trust the bank to do it for you.

Whats the reason for taking away the structural insurance away, apart from saving money?

I am leaning towards Santam actually. Like you said

Santam
Old Mutual
Mutual and Federal
Auto and General
Outsurance

Get a broker. Best thing I ever did!

I was with A&G and other vehicle was with Outsurance. We got a broker who put both of them together onto a single policy with home insurance for a combined price that was less than we were paying for for the two vehicles separately (AND gave me some specific additional services that I really wanted).

Brokers know the Insurance industry and don't have a vested interest in a specific company or product. They also deal with all the rubbish paperwork and claims and give you advice whenever you need it on just about anything.

I will never have to deal with an insurance company ever again as long as my brokerage firm exists.

It is absolutely worth it.

Discovery I guess. There are loads more, but I would stick to that list if I were you (scratch out Outsurance). Is A and G owned by the same group that owns Outsurance? If yes, avoid them too.

Get a broker and he will provide you with 3-5 alternative quotes/excess structure and exclusions.

Saving money, better service...

And get rid of the death assurance, its not legally required.

Give Alexander Forbes a call..

You don't have to have a broker in CPT though.. so you could give my broker a call. Ask for Craig.

What do you mean. If you or your partner dies, the assurance pay the rest of the house in full

Yes it is something you should have I think. But again, ask your broker for more quotes.

What did they quote for death cover?

Ahhh my bank tried to insist that I have "life cover" and I told them to get knotted.

but then I don't have a family that would be left paying off a bond if I died... so wasn't necessary for me.
