Another Corsa issue thread

I own a 2007 Corsa c 1.4 Sport. It is a high miler with 413000km. Well maintained and has never given any major problems. Recently it started randomly cutting out. I can start it and it will idle then the revs dip once or twice and it will cut out or it will just cut out straight away. There is no misfire at any point just the cutting out. It can idle away for 5 minutes before this happens or within 10 seconds. It will also do this while driving and the only way it will start again if I'm driving is if I turn the ignition off and on again.
A friend who has a Corsa C 1.4 bakkie came over recently and one by one we tried different components from his bakkie.
Throttle position sensor
Idle control valve
MAP sensor
Crank position sensor
Fuel pump relay
Coil pack
We did them one by one then all 6 components together and got the same problem.
Had another friend over with his laptop and OBD2 reader and the only errors that were picked up was the bonnet switch for the alarm and the one rear electric window open state and that is all. Transponder module is fault free as well as the body control module. ECM was tested as well and did not give any errors.
 
If it does not store any faults then it is probably something that is not being monitored by the car computer, it might prove to be something very basic like a perished vacuum tube or a loose earth wire. Also something to do with the air intake, wasn't the ICV full of gunk when you took it off? Get a carburettor cleaner and give the intake a good clean, including the hole where the ICV is connected.

It could also be worth it to check the crankshaft sensor although it does not make sense that the car would start right away if you switch it off. The HT leads could also be a problem, don't overlook them especially on a car with over 400k kms.

Well done by the way, that's good mileage to have.

I did clean the ICV and took the throttle body off and gave it a good clean. Replaced the gasket as well when I put it back on the intake manifold. The HT leads were replaced a few months ago but when testing with my friends coil pack we used his HT leads as well. We also used his cars crank position sensor and my car behaves exactly the same. Earth points have been checked as well as vacuum pipes an no issues were found.
 
Impressive kilometers covered on that car.

My local mechanic had a Corsa Bakkie 1.4 which was doing the same issue, he spend over a wheel troubleshooting it with mych success.

He got some electrical connector spray, went over through all the connectors on engine, made sure that he tightens earth's cable and issue still persisted.

This one would at times not start immediately once it died and it would trying starting but not fire up.

The only way to get it going again is to tow jumping start it ( hope i am making sense) and eventually the issue was the ECU that was faulty after taking the bakkie to someone who specializes in them.

My uno as well with a Fuel Injection dies randomly and i have discovered that the power wire to the coil is faulty.

It does look like you guys were thorough enough, I am genuinely out of ideas because 95% of the time it's the coil pack or ICV that results in such issues, it's just funny that there are no errors stored, I would expect some errors given the behaviour.

Try doing that ECU reset trick and see if it cannot help, disconnect both terminals of the battery and short the pos and neg clamps with a wire and leave like that for 30 minutes, then reconnect and see if it does not make any difference.

Have tried that reset trick as well. Didn't make a difference.
