April 16 Flare and CME

Amazing Hi-Def CME by NASA Goddard Photo and Video, on Flickr

A beautiful prominence eruption shot off the east limb (left side) of the sun on Monday, April 16, 2012. Such eruptions are often associated with solar flares, and in this case an M1 class (medium-sized) flare did occur at the same time, though it was not aimed toward Earth. This event, which is still in progress, was seen by NASA’s SDO satellite.

Sooo glad this one was not pointing at us, That ploom you see above is about the size of ten/eleven earth's

It just reminds me of how small we really are.

Would love a 1920x1080 size of that image to use as a wallpaper.

True, How dare they say HD and only have up to 1362 x 928 :(

I'll go scratch around the nasa & jpl sites later to see if I can't find a higher res as google is not finding anything. Worse comes to the worse I will see about upscaling it.
