Another 'I need a PC' thread

So R4000 for a pc without a Hard drive? I love your comparison. So adding just a dcent HD at R900 for a 1Tb drive AND another R1500 for a 5770 puts it at R6400. R6400 buys you 2 PS3's and a Blu-ray remote.

You should probably read properly hey?

I said specifically that some PS3 games will be more expensive than that. I also pointed out the bonus to this is not having to worry if they will work or not on the system that you are using. I then said I like to buy the platinum games since they are cheaper, sometimes they go platinum pretty soon after release.

I also didn't imply upgrading the PC would be a bad thing. I said in a few years time the PC might be getting a bit long in the tooth and some games would be a bit sluggish while the PS3 would still play newly released PS3 games perfectly. But lets say you upgrade the the PC.... then it will probably cost about the same or more than buying a brand new console.

I also didn't say the PS3 is the ultimate HTPC... but considering it's price it's going to be extremely hard to beat if you have certain other things already.(PC on a network for a server/HD PVR to cover the TV part)

You can also add that you can buy 2nd hand ps3 games and play with it online. I think 2nd hand pc games still have that problem???

but to be fair ... a ps3 is originally a gaming machine, and to make it a htpc that can play all formats, etc etc costs another pc and to transcode 1080p videos you need a nice machine as well. Granted there is blu ray out of the box but out of the box you can only play blu ray + a few other formats (most avi, mpeg, vob i think are a few of them, mkv is not) .... but the ps3 looks nice against the tv :)

the htpc machine is originally meant for media, so to cancel out the ps3 requires a blu ray drive + graphics card (+ maybe psu). So if you already have a pc, converting it is a bit more expensive. The benefit is of course that the pc can do more stuff than the ps3 like emulation, your usual downloading+surfing, etc.

so if you have a PC already, the ps3 is the way to go .... if you don't have a pc already, buy a new htpc instead

I have a ps3 plus my pc plugged into the tv (almost htpc) ... i prefer the pc better since i can do more stuff on it

With all this overspeccing does the noise of the fans from those high performance parts not bother people? Surely you would want a silent fanless solution?

Anyone know that the xbox's GPU is currently the most advanced on any console sold today? Also the new cypress chips from amd have more transistors than ps3 & xbox, that includes the cpu & gpu. Thing is with conslole you are stuck with the same quality games for the duration until a new variant is released unlike pc's where each game is always better than the previous one.

Obviously both platforms have good and bad games. Pc games have the advantage that they always getting better graphics or an improvement from previous releases. Consoles have great graphics too but you have to wait for the next best thing for major improvement.
