hi

I have finally had enough of Cool Ideas, they keep dropping the line, the Support is just canned copy past responses, the phone rings forever until you get cut off.

Afrihost ? - maybe they have improved, but I see threads on here stating its a bad choice.
Vox - I see a thread on here regarding the difficulty canceling and their attitude seems a bit off.
Web Africa - also by reading the Threads here they seem a bit crappy.

are we out of options ? or must we just Pray that Elon offers his Starlink set-up for us before the next century.

Hi gboy,

I vote for Afrihost. Full disclosure I work for them

Sometimes issues are just out of ISPs control. It not always as easy to get answer and get line issue resolved for obvious reasons that said however we do try our best always and sometimes clients expect faster turnaround times than possible. It's not ideal and trust me when I say an ISP wants your internet to work as good as you expect it too!

Hi there, please give me your last support ref number so I can investigate. If the line is dropping then it's infrastructure relative.

Vox here... i am enjoying so far. Their support is very nice. for cancellation you just need to make sure you return the router and u fully understand the procedure. Their support has been wonderful for me... any issue i had with my 200/200 line got sorted within minutes. I have not had any deal breaker issue... only one issue in which the line dropped and it was fixed within minutes and it has never happened again.

so, as an update on my Hunt for a fiber replacement. It seems like Vox and Vodacom fiber employ Agents, who advertise on local area FB groups. i don't know if they are independent or not, but when asked about a Static IP, they either ignore the question or genuinely have no ideas what i am talking about. I have to explain, what it is (seriously) the reasons why i would like one, as if i was explaining it to my BC (before computers) Father, not a technical salesman. If they don't offer it, its fine. but it makes me wonder if these "agents" know basic networking and not give dumbfounded responses.

You wont get static ip on any fibre to the home package. That is reserved for fibre to the business.

hi, thanks for clearing that up, 3 consultants could not answer that question. I run my Business from home office, now to find what my options are.

What do you need a fixed IP for?

It just makes life simpler when accsessing Azure, and GCP ect. dont have to update the security IP whitelist everytime it changes.
VPN service with a fixed IP is an alternative, or just setup a VPN host in Azure?
