I'm so sorry—love, backstreetboy. God forgive me.
Another learner from a high school in Paarl allegedly took her own life yesterday afternoon. It comes barely 48 hours after the body of a learner from La Rochelle Girls' High School was found dead at her home in Paarl. According to a police statement, Zara Malherbe (17) died of a gunshot wound at 17:30 yesterday afternoon shortly after her arrival at Paarl Mediclinic. She was a gr. 11 learner from HMS La Rochelle.

The school shared the news of the death of Jade Gouws (17) on its Facebook page on Thursday morning.

Sad man.

As someone who've been suicidal for a few years now and a few failed attempts, I know how bad this is.

It's worse for young people though since their expectations of themselves and others play such a big role.

There's a sht load of factors involved for someone to decide to end their life.
Lost a friend at my previous work place due to suicide as well.

I can only pray for those left with the aftermath.

Gov should report how much additional suicides have occurred this year vs last.

These additional are Covid related. Or government related. Depending how you look at it.

More needs to be done to educate people and young people about depression and other mental health issues.
With advice and guidance on how to manage it properly.

Stats are stats.

Suicide hotline?
Fk that. I would never tell someone when I'm about to off myself.

Yes it's hectic out there. This U2 song stopped me many times before. Whatever you're going through it's just a moment in time that'll pass.

Thanks for sharing backstreetboy,
That's a great song from U2.
TBH music is like clothing to me.
It's with me at home all day and night.
There's so much feel good stuff out there.
Even Metal and Nu-Metal is good for the mind at times.

I'm just a melomaniac :p

Billy Joel - You're only human:

"You're Only Human (Second Wind)" is a song written in 1985 and performed by Billy Joel. The song deals with teenage depression and suicide. It originally appeared on Billy Joel's Greatest Hits in 1985 and became a top ten hit, peaking at No.  9 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Joel, who had once attempted suicide himself, stated in a 1985 interview that he wrote the song as a way to help young people struggling with depression and thoughts of suicide.[1] In his original draft, he was concerned that the song sounded too depressing so he re-wrote it with a bouncy, joyous beat and melody with lyrics that stressed personal forgiveness and optimism about life. The song was originally simply titled "Second Wind", but Joel changed it to "You're Only Human" with "Second Wind" as a subtitle after drummer Liberty Devitto mocked the name.[2] Joel donated all royalties from the song to the National Committee for Youth Suicide Prevention.[3]

During the song, Joel audibly laughs after briefly hesitating and stuttering during one of the verses. At the prompting of Paul Simon and Christie Brinkley, who were listening in the studio, he decided to keep it in the finished song as it seemed to illustrate his point in the song about personal fallibility.[1]

Music video

At the beginning of the video, Joel plays "Piano Man" on his harmonica. The entire video pays homage to It's a Wonderful Life,[2] as the angelic Joel shows a suicidal young man threatening to jump off a bridge because of a break-up with his girlfriend, what life will be like without him, as his family and friends mourn his death - as well as showing him the joys in his future he'll be missing if he dies (e.g. high school graduation, marriage). The video ends with the man choosing to live, and reconciling with his girlfriend when Billy Joel plays "Piano Man" once again before giving him his harmonica.

One of the extras in the music video is Adam Savage, who later gained fame as the co-host of the popular science television show MythBusters.[4]

The video was shot on Staten Island and Manhattan and features landmarks such as the 59th Street Bridge and Monsignor Farrell High School.

I think many people find themselves between a rock and a hard place in this wonderful rainbow nation of ours. Pity they choose the terminal option. Sad.

It's not a choice.

Your mind goes offline. You have no choice in the matter. That's suicidal depression. You want to be dead.

You want to be in a better place.
You want to start again.
Your mind literally goes self destruct mode.

Coping mechanisms like talking it out, or venting anonymously is a start.
Get great advice from great people.
Apply advice, even if it hurts.
Realise, you've been through worse.
That's how I cope here and now.

**** this is sad. Such a bright future ahead of her... I wonder what made her do it?
