Hey everyone

I ordered my ADSL line a week ago so I figure I have a few months to decide on a router/modem...

On Digital Planet (and some other places) there is a Mecer router based on the ART514CXU chipset. Googling that shows that is is quite a widespread chipset through Europe and Australia and NZ, yet there are no reviews.

Does any of you have a router based on this and if so, what are your impressions? They are quite cheap compared to others?

Also, as a NooB question, if I buy this, what else will I need to get an ADSL setup to work (from a telco point of view, not a home network point of view).

Thanks!

hmmm...

i wouldnt reeeeaaaaallllly get a mecer modem...i'd stick with the more known brands such as:

Netgear and D-Link

They may be more..but worth it, otherwise get a Telkom modem. They seem to be great value for money.

:)

We run the Mecer 4 Port DSL Router at all of our branches. It is a decent unit, we havent had any problems to date. What you pay is what you get, the Mecer is a basic Router, the Netgears and the likes have MANY additional features which many ppl cant figure out how to use...
You will need a DSL POTS line filter, pop down to your nearest Telkom branch to buy one (+-R35).
You dont need anything else, all is included in the Mecer DSL Router box.

From what i'v heard they're absolute crap, and I wouldnt buy anything from telkom that I can get else where.

Wouldnt go for the mercer router either

Billion is another good brand to remember ;)
