Hi all,

I've read through so many posts already, and just want to clarify something.

My Scenario:

At our house we have one ADSL line with a Telkom Marconi router and we have a seperate 8 port hub. There are 6 pc's accessing the internet and bandwidth control is a nightmare.

Ok, so if i switched my router to bridged mode and everybody in the house had a seperate data account, would everybody be able to dial through with PPPoE and connect no matter how many concurrent connections there are?

Sorry if this question has been answered a million times, but i can't seem to track down one definitive answer.

Thanks

Tim

Hi Tim

Depending on how many PPPoE sessions the router can handle simultaneously, everyone might be able to dial out at the same time. How fast is your line, since we're on 384kbps and it can slow down significantly if more than two people are using it (say, to stream YouTube videos).

you should be fine and this is the best way for multiple people to access the internet without capping each other :)

Thanks for the replies. I am running a 384k line, but would the speed really change that much from what the current setup is like? Its still about the same amount of data getting transferred.

I guess i could give it a bash and see how it works.

hoegh - are you using this setup? Would be nice to find out from somebody thats actually got it up and running.

Thanks again.

Due to my firewall setup I don't use this approach routinely - but I have tested it with one PC downloading software on a local-only account and others going through an international account. Works fine. I've only done it with two current PPPOE connections, but it should be fine with 6.
