So I'm moving to a new place, there is fibre in the complex already and the boxes are all outside each unit.

On OpenServe and Vumatel both show coverage, but will I be paying the R1710 installation fee to get everything into the flat I will be in? And the connection fee?

Been looking at Cool Ideas as ISP since they seem to have overall good performance feedback...

You will have to pay the R1710 installation fee if Fibre wasn't previously installed into the flat by the landlord/previous tenant. Else, If Fibre is already being used by the current landlord/tenant, you won't have to pay the R1710. This is with Vumatel though, not sure about Openserve.

The 999 connection fee is paid every time you want to change providers (ISP). If you choose Cool Idea's, They waive this fee. This is again with Vumatel.
Maybe someone could shed light on Openserve for you.

For more info, go through some of the threads in the Fibre section. There is already a lot of information on infrastructure providers, fees and ISP's.

Honestly it's a small price to pay for being one of the lucky ones to be within fibre coverage, if the previous owner/tenant didn't have it installed already. Otherwise you'll have to pay. Just stay away from OpenServe if you can, which you can...

Ah okay I see, thanks guys. Yeah I don't mind paying this fee I just wanted to know if people are getting installation fees for cheaper and from where... I remember seeing a guy posted that he paid around 600/700 bucks for installation with Cool Ideas.

After going through a lot of the threads here I have noticed Vumatel to be the lesser of all evils (Openserve/Telkom) so will most likely go with Vuma.

It also depends if Vuma and Openserve has installed in the complex. The body corporate sometimes only allow one provider to dig up the complex and install. When you look at a coverage map you might see more than one provider in that area but you might not be able to choose all of them. Only one might have infrastructure inside the complex.

The R1710 is standard for Vumatel. Some of the other providers are cheaper such as Frogfoot. For OpenServe, you'll pay less for the install, but much more for your data, so you'll soon recoup the R1710.

Hmmm okay cool, didn't know that. Thanks for your input. I will have to find out from my friendly neighbors who have their fibre installed already.

You got to pay R500 if you are with TT Connect and sign up with Cool Ideas (it's what I did). Don't think that's possible with Vumatel.
