Our business has a cheque card which is used to purchase local goods and also pay the Google Ad-Words listing which is between R400 and R600 a month and works well for the business
The card expired and Nedbank issued another. Without telling us or consulting us, the new card was a Visa Electron card. This card cannot be used to settle accounts from Google Ad-Words.
To find this out, we exchanged emails with Google for a week, as we kept getting "unknown errors" in entering the card number on Google's website.
Nedbank (the branch) said that it must work and we are doing something wrong
After 3 days I called Card Division and was told that the Electron card cannot be used for this purpose, and to ask for a plain cheque card
On visiting the branch, it quickly became apparent that the enquiries clerk did not understand the problem at all and kept saying we could only have new card when this one expired 3 years hence. She also refused to call Card Division to ask. By this time I had been in the branch over an hour and there were 9 people in the queue
So off to another branch. This lady was more clued up and started to set in motion the rigmarole to get a cheque card. Then she stopped, saying they could not issue a cheque card since we already had an Electron Card. So I suggested she cancel this and issue the new one. This proved more taxing than her brain could manage and she also declined to call Card Division. So I got annoyed and asked for the branch manager. She came hurrying along asking what the problem was and I explained everything. She disappeared for 15 mins. Eventually she came back and said there would be R 153,00 in fees for cancelling one card and issuing another. So I asked why the useless (to us) card had been issued and she said it was to reduce costs, Nedbank always have their customer's interests at heart (what nonsense). Upon asking why we were not asked or consulted about the change of card, she said you would have to ask your domicile branch. But, I said, there is an incompetent behind the counter there and I would be wasting my breath, so why don't you call them and find out, I will wait.
But she declined to do this, and on cue, was summonsed to a more important phone call
