Howzit guys

Just joined as I found a few interesting threads and figured I could get a bit more info here.
I apologise for the long history lesson, the questions are right at the bottom if you don't want to read.

My background up 'til this point is desktop support which included server hosting, mail management, document management, SQL database management (albeit rather basic), accpac assistance as well as the RMS POS side of things for the retail stores. Some basic CCTV.
I got tired of that as I felt I was not getting anywhere (if only I knew then)

Went over to an ISP situated in Fourways that does microwave internet. Learnt quite a bit there while I forgot where I came from in my support days(that has now come back to bite me). Was there for 3years, learnt a lot by means of trial and error and manager not really wanting to teach me much(wish I saw what was setup in the DC). Here I found myself quite enjoying the networking side of things(now I realise how basic it was), although it has it's challenges, it was quite rewarding even if no-one else quite appreciated it. Things there started going pear shaped and I am now at a CCTV security and access control company.

Here I started as they are in desperate need of someone to sort out their IT as it's quite a mess. Everything works(sort of), just been done as an add-on all the time. And this is where I had to put my ego in my back pocket, which I don't mind really because if there's an opportunity to learn and I can benefit, I'm there like a bear. With that being said, I am not quite the type that says he knows everything, I rather show it than say it. Anywho, back to topic at hand.

While being here, the 3weeks or so, I have just realised that what I was feeling at my previous place was correct, I need to focus on networking. I have heard here and there that security is the way to go? I need to do some basic document management and server stuff but that doesn't really interest me. Once I get the hang of it here, I will be setting up the IP cameras and NVRs along with remote management etc. I would like to be able to set it up as efficiently as possible. I will also be doing access control.

I have not done any studying until now, all I have is experience, which if I have to be honest, I have come to the acceptance that its not that great.

I thought about doing N+, went through a very well put together video on it, not really worth it. I am looking at doing CCENT to get my foundation for CCNA. Only reason for this would be for the accreditation of the Cisco, I can learn specific systems as the need arises. I am doing my MTCNA next month as I use Mikrotik quite a bit.

Onto the questions:
What other ways of learning networking are there I can look at? I have to redo my office network but not knowing certain protocols and ways of setting it up(vlan for example) makes it rather difficult to start.
What other worthwhile systems would be good to do along with networking and security? I am thinking of VMs as well as hosting is quite a big thing.
Is there a way I could possibly learn part time but practically. I have spent hours reading stuff and I still don't know what I am looking at, I need to see it work and why. If I need to meet with someone after hours then so be it.
Does anyone know what kind of career there is with me being in networking as well as CCTV and access control.

I do apologise for the long post once again, was no point putting this in the introduction section as it ties in with my questions.
