So, after "blowing my motherboard" (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...-blowing-a-motherboard-quot-actually-possible), and wanting to upgrade a long time, please recommend a replacement :

I currently have a (screwed) Intel DP45SG, 4 sticks of mixed (Transcend, Kingston) 2Gb DDR3-1333 RAM, and a Q9400 CPU.

I'll prolly try flogging the CPU (is it worth something?). The rest of my components are fine (some hdd's, CM Stacker, old but trusty Radeon HD4870). So it's only a mobo, CPU, SSD and maybe some replacement RAM (they're cheap, why not).

So I'm thinking :

* A Z68 mobo (what about a Z77?)
* i5 2500k (or an i7, if it's not that much more expensive)
* 4 x 4Gb DDR3-1866 XMS (like 2 of these http://titan-ice.co.za/product_info.php?cPath=35_198&products_id=6347)
* 120Gb SSD (like this : http://titan-ice.co.za/product_info.php?products_id=5920)

Don't wanna spend a helluva lot more than R5k.

Lots of people are looking for socket 775 quads. You should be able to flog it easily.

So, I'm thinking :

* i5 2500k : R2125 (http://www.prophecy.co.za/intel-cor...3ghz-boxed-processor-sandybridge-p-87342.html)
* MSI Z68MA-ED55 : R1622 (http://titan-ice.co.za/product_info.php?cPath=32_284&products_id=5497)
* Corsair Vengeance 16Gb Kit (4x4Gb) : R1103 (http://www.prophecy.co.za/corsair-v...b-kit4gbx4-ddr31600-hiperformanc-p-98472.html)
* OCZ Agility 3 120Gb : R1445 (http://www.wootware.co.za/ocz-agility-3-sata-iii-2-5-120gb-internal-solid-state-drive.html)

Kinda blows my budget at R6300, but I could prolly live without the SSD.

First of all what are you going to use the PC for? Gaming, video editing, multimedia?

Work (programming, so, two or three Visual Studio instances at a time, while browsing, some tools), and regular gaming (WoW, and whatever comes out... would like to say play Diablo 3 in 1920x1080 on my T240).

Okay some suggestions

1) Sell your CPU

2) Drop the SSD (unless you want fast boot times)

3) Use money saved from SSD and get an i7 3770K (When it comes out on April 29th)

4) Get 4x4 DDR3-1600Mhz (Almost no difference in performance compared to 1866Mhz)

5) Get an ASUS Z77 Deluxe (You would pay a bit extra, but doing so buys you tons more featues, and a mobo from the no.1 mobo brand)

6) Get a decent graphics card, something along the lines of a GTX 560Ti or Radeon 6870

Where do you get the Asus Z77's? Had a quick look around, can only find MSI's.

The XFX HD Radeon 4870 XXX 1Gb is pretty on par with what I require. I can play the games I want, at a decent resolution. So I'll be sticking with that. May even check if I can find another cheap one somewhere, and X-Fire them.

If it works for you then stick with it :)

When it comes out, I would say around $260 abroad and around R2500 here.

A bit closer :

* i5 2500k : R2125 (http://www.prophecy.co.za/intel-core...e-p-87342.html)
* MSI Z77A-GD55 : R1992 (http://titan-ice.co.za/product_info.php?cPath=32_284&products_id=6840) (or I'll wait for some other Z77's to become avail)
* 2 x Patriot G2 DDR3 1600Mhz 8GB kit : R1000 (http://www.computersonly.co.za/)
* OCZ Agility 3 60Gb in SRT : R888 (http://www.wootware.co.za/ocz-agility-3-sata-iii-2-5-60gb-internal-solid-state-drive.html)

Total : R6005

Apparently, an SSD in SRT is indistinguishable from an SSD as a main drive. So I'll rather go smaller, and use it as cache.
