Well, I suppose it is not really bad luck. These wear and tear happens to all cars.
My brake light came on a while ago and took it too Ilan Motos to have it looked at. He checked and said the brakes are fine, the pads were replaced with the last service which was about a year ago I think, but the light would not go away. He pluged in the diagnostic and the light went out before he could run the test. 10 minutes later of driving home the light came on again.
So about a week ago I noticed a horrible scratching sound coming from the rear brakes. Sounded almost what I imagine those rumored taxi busses would sound like with their squashed coke cans for brake pads. Took the car now to Supa Quick as they are really close to me. The lady had a look with me once all the tyres were off and said she cannot imagine how Ilan Motors did not notice the state of my discs. They are way too thin and there is sa chip on the rear left one even, which she showed to me. She said they are too messed up and thin to skim. So left the car there while they get the parts from their warehouse. They were kind enough to give me a lift home and will fetch me when it is done.
All in all it is going to be R5700.00. /sigh, but ja, it has to be done. They are going to put on Deselra parts. The pads they say is a medium hardness compount I believe with no squeeking (which I have had with the last pads, and because it is a bit softer than the hard compound ones, they dont eat into your discs as quick. Asked them to put new wipers on also for when the rains starts. The wipers on there now does not wipe properly anymore. She said I must rather bring the car to her for when it needs a service again. She does know brakes, but she loves engines and that is here thing to service them. What is nice is that they are open Saturdays, so no more having to struggle to get the car to mechanic during the week and then to get to work and leave again to pick up the car later in the afternoon.
So ja, lovely start to the weekend.
