JOHANNESBURG - A white candle burns in Thandeka Madonsela's Naturena home, alongside a portrait of the girl who has been described as a "sweet girl who had big dreams".
Madonsela was mutilated and murdered on Saturday.
It is alleged two teenage boys left her for dead in the veld after attacking the 14-year-old.
The suspects are expected to appear in court on Tuesday morning.
Yesterday, the girl's grandmother, Gladys Madonsela, described the young girl as a person who wanted to be successful.
She said her granddaughter was a sweet girl who had big dreams.
“She told me last week that in her life, she wants to succeed and finish school.”
When Eyewitness News visited the Madonsela home Gladys's eyes were transfixed to the polka dot uniform that belonged to Thandeka. The Rand Girls' High School jersey and skirt were hanging on the curtain rail.
Her ambitions were also to work and take care of her family, according to Gladys Madonsela.
Her grandmother said she could not believe this had happened to her "little girl".
Gladys said she would miss the teenager's cheerfulness.
“I will miss everything about her. She never complained about her chores and always cleaned the house.”
FAMILY FRIEND ‘TOO TRAUMATISED TO LOOK’
A family friend who arrived on the scene of the incident also told Eyewitness News she was too traumatised to even look at Thandeka’s body.
The scene, which is located just behind the N1 highway in Naturena, was pointed out by one of the girl's uncles and a family friend.
Lerato Ditsi said the road that passes the scene, is a shortcut that links Freedom Park to the neighbourhood.
On the scene, stones marked the exact spot where the teenage girl’s body was found.
Ditsi said she could not even bring herself to look at the girl. She said she was at the crime scene and just waited close by.
“I just stepped back and couldn’t see her in that condition. That’s not the Thandeka I know.”
UNCLE SAYS HE WANTS JUSTICE
Meanwhile, Thandeka’s uncle Ronnie Madonsela said the family was still in a state of shock.
Ronnie said he never thought this could happen to his niece.
“We are trying, but we are still shaken. As I’m speaking I am shaking.”
He has called for those responsible to face the full might of the law, saying it was important to get to the bottom of the crime.
“I need justice to prevail and the truth to come out.”
He said the family was waiting for the investigating officer to inform them of progress on the case.
