Another smear campaign -Selebi

Son of a female dog. Man's committing treason against the country daily, shouldn't even be in his position, and now this? Needs to get the hell out of this country along with whatever cash he's made.

I think "smear campaign" has been abused. Maybe they should use "mud slinging" as an alternative.

The most effective smears are based on a kernel of truth. Selebi must come out and explain.

Quick justice indeed. This is the man who has been pushing for the disarmament of SA citizens, who has overseen the police force's conversion into a national joke... and now you expect us not to believe that he's on the side of the criminals?

All of the mismanagement and corruption in the police starts somewhere. I'm inclined to believe that it's at the top.

Good for you! The presumption of innocence is so complex that only a few meer mortals like yourself can understand.

for a person to be found guilty they must first be accused or suspected. This is a part of the procedure. Now dear sir, what you don't seem to notice, that unless there is big public outcry, our government doesn't do anything.

if the sanctity of the presumption of innocence remained nobody would ever be convicted and this country would be in an even worse position.

I find it very intresting that everybody has become so "constitutional" lately. However please bear in mind, that as a private individuals pointing a fingers we are not bound by your high constitutional standards, mostly because they are not practical.

There are one of two possibilities, Mr Selebi is a good, straight and honest man who is being framed, or he is not. Hollywood would go with the former, common sense would go with the latter.

His friends in government are doing it, travel gate... arms deal.... tenders.... maybe he was just starting to feel left out. he is human after all.

I can't understand why out of 45 million south africans, there is not a better person to do his job for half his salary.

I hope Mr Selebi is not going to get a holiday over the festive season, like he has denied his managment.

I'm sure the rotten bast@rd already has travel plans.

A person may not be convicted for many reasons (by illegal/immoral/unethical means) but that is another issue. But surely principle is simple to understand ? viz.

Unless convicted as guilty by the highest court of ruling, a person is deemed innocent.

Raoul? Define elite and why you don't see yourself in that category.
I thought elite was the group Selebi subscribed to.

While I don't agree with flaming ahead of trial, and i don't go with the `where there's smoke theory' since it is merely a saying that takes nothing of an individual situation into account, I certainly don't believe for a minute that our underpaid police force (talking about the ones doing the policing, not the `managing') is a success.

I know of excellent cops on the force... who are taking enormous strain (including their families) because their colleagues are not willing to lift a finger if they can avoid it... and what else do you get when you pay peanuts? For those who are there for the love of policing (I can assure you there are not many reasons to become a cop these days other than this and `I don't have much ambition'), the job is incredibly frustrating and demoralising... especially when you are not recognised and rewarded for good service (maybe a pat on the back?). Why should our cops be paid barely more than a minimum wage? How many of our kids want to become cops when they get to the age where they have to make career decisions? What must it be like to be married to a policeman or woman in a country that has the second highest rate of violent crime outside a warzone? While you are made aware that your boss at the top is one of the best paid individuals in the country...

This case aside, I certainly don't stand behind our police comissioner, apologies to anyone who things differently. Before anyone tells me that budget decisions are not in his hands, I want to add that I never remember hearing him complain about the salaries.

Did anyone of you hear the interview with Paul O'Sullivan on Cape Talk/702? He's the man behind these accusations and he's extremely confident because he publicly said on the radio that Selebi is a 'crook, liar and cheat'.
 
Selebi doesnt have to be convicted of anything to deserve our scorn and the censure and dismissal by his employer ( our government). All that is needed is that this Agliotti character is in fact disreputable and that Selebi is connected to him. Its known as lying down with dogs and is not acceptable behaviour by a civil servant.

We as citizens have every right to be outraged at the mere suggestion of some sort of collusion between our commisioner of police and suspected criminals. If there is even only circumstantial evidence to support these claims the onus is now on Selebi to disprove them to the satisfaction of the South African public or shut up and resign.

That dude rocks. I wish someone else besides John Robbie would interview him, maybe David O'Sullivan.
 
Is he the guy who takes money from First National bank to say on national television that many other banks are a ripoff and FNB are not?
