Another special on PS3

Dang, I heard on the radio they saw cows flying over the N3. I must definetly go see this! :D
 
That would be the new 40GB PS3 model.

It's the same as the 60GB Model except it only has 2 USB ports, a smaller HDD and no backwards compatibility...

Easily the best version of the PS3 yet....
 
BC is only a good thing if you have a large amount of PS2 titles and no PS2...

Who wants to play old titles anyway ;).
I once put an old Xbox title in my 360 and played for about 5 minutes before turning it off, it just isn't the same

You are right ... checked again and it seems they now removed the GS graphics chip and it's framebuffer as the software emulator in the PAL consoles previously handled the missing PS2 CPU or Emotion Engine.

The GS was too oddball and weird for the PS3 RSX graphics chip to faithfully emulate.

It is a rather dumb move again by Sony ... also is this "feature" at least mention on the packaging or only on in-the-know websites ???.

I think it's a good move. The PS3 has too many features. No seriously. All these little bits and pieces are what drove the price up to high. If they had dumped all these little nice to have's, they could have launched earlier at $300 -$400 and the "console wars" would probably be looking very, very different now (at least position 2 and 3).
 
I also heard the ad this moro.

I think BC is a stupid feature really, sure its nice to be able to pick up an old classic, but ultimately once you have played ps3 titles, ps2 titles just plain suck.

A ps3 for R4500 = Lotsa sales for SK this christmas.

I still believe that thanks to previous marketing and brand presence in south africa a cheaper console could still see the ps3 overtake the xbox in SA. Most gamers probably wouldnt be following the whole "war" on the net. All they know is that there is a console called the xbox, it looks pretty good, but they think hey the ps3 must be better, so they will wait untill the price drops and then they will rather buy that!

Agreed. But the longer the X-Box reigns supreme in SA, the less likely it is that that will happen.
 
Thats simply coz the PS2 dominated the SA market. Now with some proper competition things are getting interesting with price cuts amongst the biggest consoles playing into the hands of potential buyers.

I still think BC was a good idea since Sony made big fuss about it being in the PS3 when it was launched. Now they tell you to also go buy a PS2 if you want to play BC games? Total arrogance. Lol.
 
I can promise you this, Incredible Connection and Game will both be hauled before the ASA before the end of Jan for saying the PS3 is compatibile with all PS2 games...

Check your latest flyer they are still saying that now, which is a lie and when the 40GB comes out it is blatant false advertising...
 
I definitely wanted the backward compatibility. I'd have preferred if they had not included blu-ray and wi-fi in the first place. The only thing

There are a lot of rabid Playstation fanatics in South Africa due to it essentially being the only console available here for many years. As with places like Brazil locals think console and Playstation are two interchangeable words for the same thing. It will be interesting to see how Microsoft counters this.

It's a lie anyway if Sony's own EU backward compatibility list is accurate. There are numerous games that barely or don't work, and of course the PS2 peripherals don't work.

Yes I know and they have been rapped over the knuckles once already for it, but after the 40GB model is released it becomes an outright lie and people will jump on it again...
