Another SUV thread - Audi Q3 vs Ford Kuga and 150K price difference

Irrelevant to the thread I know, but those Q3 rear tail lights so much remind me of South Park.
 
Mazda CX5 if only we had the 2.2l Diesel Skyactiv. IDIOTS for not bringing it here!
 
I can only talk about the 2.0TDCi engine because my Focus runs the same engine, tuned differently of course.

The engine develops most of its torque in a very low rev range, think 2000 - 3000 rpm, which accounts for its fuel economy - I already did as low as 5.5l/100km and as high as 7.6l/100km at 120km/h and 2250rpm. But, this is on a hatch of course, so the bigger body of the Kuga and the aerodynamics, will definitely have an effect on this figure, but overall, it should be good.

As for the gazillion buttons, if the layout is like my car's, they're easy once you get to know what is what and you end up actually using only a few.

If you were up in Jozi I would just buy a Subaru because it's you ;-) As appealing as it sounds, I think I will lock down on a Kuga (who else will be able to say "I got stuck with my Kuga in traffic" or "I took a Kuga into the veld") around Q2 next year. I did hear yesterday that in Europe there seems to be a recall/factory stop on Kuga's - not quite sure what the reason is (it's not the tank empty firmware issue and sounds more serious). Unsure if that recall affects SA cars (AFAIK SA Fords are coming in from South America).
 
The kia sportage is due for a mid life update in june/july apparently, about the time you are looking to buy, so maybe also consider that.

thanks - awesome - will keep an eye out for the kia. I would think that many of the other models would have to go through a refresh around that time too...
 
Have a look at the Renault Koleos. Renault is not as bad as many think but rather much better than expected. Servicing costs and parts costs have gone down drastically. We've currently got a 2010 Koleos (bought last year), 2007 Megane (bought this year), 2000 Megane (bought in 2007) and a 2001 Scenic (bought new) and they are extremely reliable and don't cost much to run. The Koleos is a 2.5 petrol averaging between 8 and 10 l/100km. Its extremely comfortable, very spacious and has a lot of power. Before ruling it out, go and take one for a test drive - you will be surprised. It seems like they have stopped the diesel models and are running only a 2.5 4x2, 2.5 4x4 and 2.5 4x4 A/T with prices starting at R300k (from what I remember). The car is fully equipped with sat nav, Bluetooth, etc. With that saving, a lot of money can be spent on the extra fuel:D
 
I am really disappointed in the conduct of that Audi salesman. Being an Audi fan, it really irritates me that people behave like this and think their sh*t don't stink. My opinion of the Q3 is that it is an overpriced, previous generation A3 on stilts and is a rip off.

Rather get the Ford/Subaru/other brand.
