I am the IT co-ordinator for British International College. We have recently opened a new campus in Pretoria....

After we setup everything, we thought wouldn't it be nice to have ADSL in the school, i.e. giving the students and staff permanent internet access (I will refrain from debating the small cap issue)

Now I was quite willing to wait the mandatory 21 working days before a installation date could be given ... but to be told today that they first have to upgrade the exchange .... they think it will be done by end september ...

I find it pathetic ... why could they not simply have told me when I ordered it that the exchange could not hold anymore ports... what the hell is the point of checking wether the tell no can support ADSL ... etc etc etc

Sorry I am simply livid atm, I must now explain to the kids why they cannot use the internet... for at least another two months...

actually probably yes, at our jhb campus we have 2 adsl lines, one for staff one for students.... and we normally manage quite well with our cap...

our pta campus is still rather small....

I suspect that their "ordering" system does not know about the ports availability at the exchange ... the only way of knowing if there is availability is for them to log an order and generate a work request for their technical section.

yes tibby.dude....

I am complaining.... about the fact that it takes 21 working days for them to get to this point....

Backlog and staff shortage.

Internet for Schools still lacking.

BT6LW.

Hello and welcome to the forums of MyADSL.

Lets be realistic here.
The two months(end Sept) that they told you about could just be to get you off the phone.

My 11 Grade Child that is doing Computer Studies at School is not able to access the internet as the school cannot afford it.
The computers are as outdated as their internet connection as well.

If she needs to do research, she has to do it at home and not at school.

And have been doing so for decades.
An ungrateful and arrogant Company that doesn't deserve to be in business.

anyway, just thought I would share another abuse of their power...

I hate them...

*sigh*.. and to think telkom are meant to be building and educating the country by means affordable telecommunications products/services.. telkom is a good example of african countries where, after gaining independance from colonial rule, a rich black elitist class was created, and the people suffered even more than before..

only in this part of the world..

Guys, Telkom is required by the government to roll out connectivity to schools. This is part of their "Social Responsibility". Currently, Telkom have effectively disregarded this responsibility in favour of making their shareholders richer....

The solution looked almost perfect... till they tell you that they don't have coverage in pta...

I burst advises me not to buy there package

and lastly, Sentech would have sufficed, but with their new packages, I am advised to get 1 connection for every 2 pc's

Argh...

so if anyone could advise anything... I would really appreciate it...

thanks...

Unfortunately unless you're willing to pay for Diginet you pretty much have to suck it down and wait :(
