In the latest YeboNews (Aug 06) they're touting the SMS bundles and state the following:

Costs Involved:
With Vodacom SMS Bundles you pay less than peak and off-peak SMS rates, no matter when you send them.

The smallest bundle is now for 50 which costs r25 meaning a effective cost of 50c per sms (if you use up all 50 smses of course). Now according to vodacom's website off peak contract are 35c each - to me thats cheaper than the 50c they promise as the cheapest way.

Ye, I also noticed this...
Maybe another marketing gimmick, relying on unintelligent users to use the service

I wonder if we'll be getting some "clarification" on the matter.

If we noticed it off the bat - tell me no one there did too.

okay i think what they needed to add to that is that the 50 and 100 sms bundles is not full bundles, its more a matter of "buy in bulk" which is also why their out of bundle rates is normal prices. the sms bundles refers to the 200 sms's per month or more which does in fact work out a bit cheaper where if you send all 200 sms's in peak time you can save up to R115 per month on your sms bill.

i am not talking the add good because yes you will have to work it out and it should have the usual fine print included in it and this way they will basically get the "uninformed" person to go and buy a R25 bundle thinking he will actually save money. but for any bundle, 200 and up, you will save money

To paraphrase someone, Telecoms companies use confusion as their chief marketing tool.

The more confused customers are, the more successful the advertising.
